Sounds like a great idea, except for the fact that if used properly, it dovetails nicely with some of IB's other properties. Might want it around on that basis alone.

A forum closure? Why?

Because it's basically useless. Have you looked at it recently? It uses up space and contributes basically nothing. Just like we create forums/parts of FT, we have to evaluate them every so often and eliminate them if they're not living up to their purpose.

Interesting timing given that's being touched on in another TB thread I started. Needless to say the first criteria to me for a forum to survive is usage and I would therefore support the motion as presented. ^

I wouldn't call FT Reviews a forum. Not sure what to call it, but I don't consider it a forum. An unused tool?

I can see why it was attempted, but the fact of the matter is that in a community-based place like FlyerTalk, more and better information of the sort that FTR was created to provide can be found in trip reports, sticky threads and by asking specific questions in the right forum.

IMHO.

As I stated in the motion I called it a "section." Is that ok?

Remove it. It's useless and there will be no loss if it's gone. In fact, I thought it had been removed long ago until discussion on another thread. When I want a hotel or restaurant review, I go to the appropriate forum.

I brought this up over 2 years ago and was told that it wasn't possible because Flyertalk Reviews isn't a forum, it is "part of the site." Please see:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=493721

Can someone tell me what, if anything, has changed? Why are we bothering to talk about something that according to FT, can't/won't be changed? Thanks!

That was then and this is now.

Without breaking any ridiculous privacy rules, it is safe to assume that this proposal was vetted through all proper channels before the motion was made. ^

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.1.17.06.3.1.17.0)

Gotcha . Good riddance to FT Reviews then! Long an eye-sore.

Surely the concern is that by removing the reviews, these threads will simply appear (and clutter) other forums?

I do not understand this argument. Considering that the last post in Reviews is 2 years old, I do not see how eliminating that section will suddenly cause people to decide to start posting their reviews....

We already have tons of reviews of hotels, etc., in the appropriate forums where they are easy to find--at least when search is working. I don't understand your comment.
