I still think that this forum should be established and fear that it has now reached the stage that controversy over it is more important than the actual issue -- but I am also troubled that months and months roll on without VX either instituting their FF program or explaining why not in a public forum (like their website or FT).
That's my main objection to a separate forum. My second objection is there's little traffic in the ONSAFFP forum. This indicates little demonstrated need for such a forum. "I want" is not a demonstrated need by my standards. If and when both of those things change, I'd be happy to reconsider an eleVAte forum for VX. Other TalkBoard members may feel differently (OTMMFD). |

Then you must really have a problem with the Frontier, Midwest, and Finnair forums. Guess those will have to close as well if you want to be consistent.

Actually, nsx there was a comfortable margin this time.
Cholula, techgirl and Jenbel had already registered and voted their approval of the forum. Kokonutz, Lucky9876Coins and I had already registered our approval of the forum. There really was no way to predict that Jenbel would change her vote. |

For the nth time, I am amenable to consolidation/folding into continent underperforming forums of airlines. Please feel free to make such a suggestion in another thread. @:-)

You've posted this a few times. I'm curious why some Talk Board members feel free to raise issues off their own bat without any member request, while others (such as yourself) seem to be reactive only.

Err that is my point - some other Talk Board members take it upon themselves to raise issues that members do not raise, while you (and some other Talk Board members) seem to be unwilling to raise an issue off your own volition.
Not that I think there is anything wrong with that - but I'm curious as to why. |

That Spiff, Gleff, and Bhatnasx voted last "no" in the last balloting and very little (if anything) had developed in the previous month to change their minds. It was a pretty safe bet that they would vote no again (as they did). 2. That with 3 "no" votes being cast, the ballot would pass only if there were 6 "yes" votes. By abstaining, she guaranteed that the motion would fail, no matter how the others voted. As it turned out, both Cholula and Techgirl voted "yes" -- exactly as they did a month ago (not at all surprising). Kokonutz and Punki sponsored and co-sponsored the motion, so the odds were very good that they would voted in favour (as they did). The only vote which was really questionable was LuckyCoin's. Had he voted no, Jenbel's vote would not have mattered at all. The motion would have failed. If he voted in favour (as he wound up doing), Jenbel's abstention would defeat the motion. In short, Jenbel would have been well aware that her abstention would not possibly make the motion pass and would make certain that it would fail no matter what LuckyCoins did. I would still be interested in hearing from her why she decided to kill a motion which she seconded only a month ago. Agree it does seem like a very curious stance. (However in this case I am personally pleased she did, as this entire motion being made again so soon, was IMHO essentially an abuse of normal process, and TB convention!) Many folks unfamiliar with the TB voting process do not seem to grasp the great importance of an ABSTAIN vote in some tight motions. @:-) An abstain vote is very different to a "Did Not Vote" and often skews the math entirely. |

Not that I think there is anything wrong with that - but I'm curious as to why. It strikes me as more sour grapes than an honest effort to improve the FlyerTalk experience. That doesn't mean I won't start the thread, but if there's a real drive to consolidate airline forum XX into its continent forum, it would be nice to see such a thread start as something other than "well VX didn't get a forum..." |

Give me a ^ for political prognostication and a :td: for failing yet again to be on the right side of the vote for a VX forum. |

For this particular topic, a lot of time would be required to constantly monitor forums to see their level of activity and whether it makes sense to consolidate them. As such, I'd rather someone who had some interest in the forum do so and make the suggestion as I don't visit any of the example forums listed.

Last I checked I wan't complaining about the VX decision. Some may recall my Talk Board election questions about how Talk Board members seek feedback. This is merely related to that. As with many things, each Talk Board member may have their own view or reasons for doing or not doing anything.
You do make a good point, though. Maybe it is time to take a closer look at some of those underperforming forums and see if a little consolidation is in order. |

Oh, I completely understand it's purpose... it's a motion-killer, normally used by people who don't have the guts to come out and vote against something.
Your characterization of an abstaining voter is rather perjorative, especially since it seems to be a blanket characterization. :( |
