Do we really need to keep the "discontinued programs" so prominently?

Do we really need to keep the "discontinued programs" so prominently?
They come ahead of lots more active threads, and I bet some of the older ones hardly even get searched, let alone contributed to. At least they could be consolidated or moved to the very end of the list.

I agree. If the programs are "discontinued programs", then how much current news could there be for these programs?
I would say discontinue these forums - or at the very least, combine all of them into one forum, instead of the 10 or how ever many separate ones there are now.

They should not be discontinued totally. Many people find FT precisely because they want to know what happened to their old programmes, etc. They do not need to be so prominent and perhaps should eventually be collapsed into their own title and subfora, but need to exist for at least 18 months after a programme ceases and then have a sticky at the top of new forum(s) linking to them. An example would be to kee KLM and AF quite prominent until the end of 2006.

The AF board has information not only about Frquence Plus but also about AF operations. As only a small percentage of threads have been moved to the new board, some of the new FB threads reference older threads, and it is quite useful to be able to quickly access and search the AF board.
I vote for keeping them as they are, especially as when you use the Myflyertalk functionalities, you have no need to list these discontinued programs in your view of FlyerTalk.

I wasn't asking that they be deleted (although it seems like the main use of a number of them is just for "test postings"), just that they be moved to somewhere less prominent, like the very end.
However, there ought to be a forum sunset policy just like there is a new forum policy (at least I think there is a new forum policy), otherwise the number of forums will expand to infinity.
Regarding the above post, I don't use that functionality because periodically it is fun to look at a forum I don't regularly peruse. I just find that isn't the case for these discontinued programs.

The proposal doesn't seem to be getting that much response, so I guess it shouldn't be #1 on the Talk Board's list. However, it certainly couldn't hurt to move the whole area further down the list so I don't have to run by it EVERY time I want to get to "Travel Buzz" which really IS pretty important.
Also, if forum explosion is given as a valid reason for not adding NEW forums, then it still seems reasonable to have a forum retirement policy.
Spiff, I'm betting you've written a C program or two!
