What does TalkBoard do?

The title of this thread sounds sarcastic, but it is not.

I joined F/T about a year ago and there were TalkBoard elections going on. I didn't vote as I knew none of the candidates and very little about Flyer Talk at all.

I still don't really know what TalkBoard's functions are. What areas does it have responsibility for? Does it set any policies? Does it only make recommendations to Randy? Is it responsible for recruiting moderators or supervising them?

What decisions has it made in the past year?

Dovster, excellent questions. Please allow me to point you to the "townhall" where hopefully some, if not all of your questions will be answered:

http://www.flyertalk.com/townhall/

As for appointing moderators, no; The Talkboard isn't involved in appointing or supervising moderators.

If you feel there are unanswered questions please feel free to post them.

When I was on the Talkboard, we also advised Randy on how to invest all the fees he received from our FT membership dues....

Does the TB help to communicate answers to questions about FT policies to the membership?

Such as, for example, the current policy concerning what the actual current moderator guidelines might be?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...25#post3111925

Just asking!

The TalkBoard does not make policy with respect to Forum moderation.

That responsibility lies with Randy and his capable staff at WebFlyer.

Randy has already responded to these concerns here:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...&postcount=127

Asking this question for the 5th time might not be in the best interests of the board, as Randy said:

But, let's not beat this up too much. You've all got something valueable in your travel and frequent flyer knowledge that would be good to share with others. Let's start with volunteering that. Go out and find a post you contribute to.

Dovster - One thing the TalkBoard does (very occasionally) is elect a new President.

We were told an election was underway. Then we were told the winner even though all the votes were apparently not in. And then were told there was apparently only one candidate so I am curious why any vote, late or not needed to be counted?

As this all occurred a month or so back, and despite promises to the contrary, there is still not a single word on the date this President was "elected", the vote totals if there was in fact a formal election and eventual Candidates (or lack thereof.)

Can this recent activity please be updated for the permanent record and for the purposes of transparency on:

http://www.flyertalk.com/townhall .. which is said to be for:

Welcome to the FlyerTalk Town Hall. Here you can learn more about the management of the FlyerTalk community

Thank you.

p.s. ... Randy advised us a month or two back that "Signatures" were to be referred to TB for a determination and advice. There are still threads here asking what gives on that as it affects many. Can Town Hall also be updated with what the vote on re-introducing Signatures was.

In many democracies convicted felons are not allowed to vote, three time losers are executed or at least given a life sentence.

You keep asking and you keep getting the same answer (even in the thread you linked): the Talkboard has nothing to do with moderation.

I checked through the pertinent threads and couldnt locate where promises were made other than the one to post the vote totals... I'd appreciate if you could point those promises out to me.

Despite being unable to find where the promises were made, the information you seek was all spelled out in the last "Congratulations Thread"

If you'll please refer to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338806

In post #4, Spiff posted that at the time 6 had voted for me, 2 abstained, and we were waiting on the 9th vote, and he would update the post if the numbers changed

Starwood Lurker, in post #7 clearly stated that I had run opposed, and was voted in with 2/3rds of the vote. Despite the fact that I had the votes needed early on, the vote was left open for two weeks, so that all members had an ample opportunity to make their vote known.

Later in Post #23 ScottC announced that August 1 was my first day as the new president.

p.s. ... Randy advised us a month or two back that "Signatures" were to be referred to TB for a determination and advice. There are still threads here asking what gives on that as it affects many. Can Town Hall also be updated with what the vote on re-introducing Signatures was.[/QUOTE]

That will be coming sometime this week.

Yes, glad you found it. That is what was promised quite some time back but not delivered. The promise to post the vote total on Town Hall. Which is not there, which is where it should be of course, and which is where all previous presidential vote outcomes are duly posted and recorded in detail as is normal procedure for any vote.

Buried somewhere and being dribbled out in fragments here and there by various members of TB, when and if they see fit, in threads on this Forum is not the same, and I look forward to seeing it on Town Hall, which Randy has designated as the central and up-to-date point of easy reference for the activities of Talk Board to be viewed by the membership. i.e.:

FlyerTalk Town Hall

The Town Hall is now open to the public. View what our TalkBoard has been up to

Thank you.

Missy, if you don't get those votes posted on Town Hall by the end of this week (August 20, 2004), I'm going to demand that you (and the rest of the Talkboard) get docked a week's pay.

Will you at least demand it by using bolding and colored fonts?
