Why is this thread still here?

This thread is not about a news story, and it belongs in the security forum. It is full of name calling.
It is my understanding that misplaced threads like this are the exact reason to have moderators, but this is still in the news after 5 days.

While dissapointed that you don't criticize the member who posted it in the wrong forum - we'll go ahead and take blame for everything. A few things to note: there will be some time for adjustment on the "In the News" and in fact we may close it down completely. Now, if we had immediately started to move and restrict threads there that truly weren't in the news, would we have then seen a post here about the overhandedness of moderators and them having no leeway on changes? Second....while you point out the five days, it was only one day ago that the thread turned ugly. And finally, re-calibrate yourself since the post has since been closed with notice of action.
Here's a few things for thought. Moderators are volunteers. Often they are very frequent flyers who can be out flying around and have jobs and families to support. The idea that moderators are full-time employees 24/7 on FlyerTalk is un-founded so it hopefully will explain why some things happen quickly and other things don't.
One of these times, I would like to see a member who sees a thread such as this get out of hand - actually point out the members' responsibility for this harm, not the volunteer staff who it seems only recognition is that of a parade clown - sweeping up the manure after the animals stroll by.
Bottom line - action has been taken.

Randy, I am not being critical of the board... merely raising the visibility level of this thread. And after I made my previous post, it did get noticed and resolved, for which I thank you. To the extent my tone seemed harsh, I do apologize.
The "In the News" thread was essentially taken over for some time by people using it as a platform for their own political views. This was, in part, my fault, since I engaged them for too long. The level of heat seems to have dropped off lately, but basically only because no one even bothers to counter the way they use the In the News section anymore.
In general, ny own opinion is that news is best put in the thread to which it applies, rather than a catchall thread, which just tends to lead to these kinds of small controversies.
Thanks.
