I don't think there's a better clipping service at any price on the web for a topic as specific as ours is. As for the moderators, I can tell you now that as long as I'm involved with FT i will fight against forums that want to dicuss whether moderators are using good judgement in moving threads. I thought I made it very cleear that the next few weeks would be the development cycle of this program and we'd learn from the feedback - which is highly appreciated. But to form a long term forum for discussion of such will do everything to undermine their efforts. Ultimately the TalkBoard will moderate the moderators and i think we leave that to them. In essense they become elected officials which will hopefully and truly represent the communities efforts. It's all new, so let's not worry that everything may not be perfect yet. and at the end of the day......it's always judgement.</font> http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum73/HTML/000270.html --- So what gives, if anything, Chexy, Randy? You too are welcomed at the MoreModerators board. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The only thing that useless BB should be used for is an example of how NOT to moderate.
IMHO: Moderators should NOT be anonymous. Moderators should be able to check personal vendetta's at the door. (When moderating ONLY. I am a firm believer that moderators should only be held to a higher standard WHEN moderating). If a moderator edits/delets a post, they should save the original HTML files so that the powers to be can see why the action was taken. Moderators should not only be responsible for heading off "Flame Wars" at the pass, they should also be responsible for moving/closing Off-Topic posts and threads. Moderators should have the power to edit "Spam" and "Cross-Posting". They should also report repeat offenders to the powers to be. Just MHO |

Did you folks perhaps have some "difficulties" with your posts over at another BB? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif In any case, how would this apply here? I lack the wisdom to be able to tell others where they are best suited to particiapte, and how to run their own bulletin boards! Just one of my many shortcomings! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif -Mark |
doc, I'm not telling you to go someplace else, so get over it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif All I was doing with my post is to point out that the approach of having more moderators can be seen in action at that other bulletin board.
It does provide for some very interesting comparisons in the approach taken to moderation and user input. And yes, you and anyone else are quite welcome to join. As Rudi and many others have very eloquently put it, membership here does not preclude membership there, nor does membership there preclude membership here. Again, if we might attempt to refocus:

Or?</font> There is an oneline form you fill out and pull down menus where you select what type of problem or violation you are reporting. No matter if it's a technical problem or a content complaint, this seems to work very well for me, and issues have been addressed/resolved quickly, and it always seems to be "manned" even when Randy is out of town. |
I've come to understand that a series of moderator guidelines were actually passed/approved last winter?
Are these perhaps to be soon made available for public viewing? Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif -Mark |

The moderator guidelines can be found here.
It defines quite clearly what actions moderators will take if the TOS is violated. FewMiles.. ------------------ [ FlyerTalkers' Resources on the Web ] [ Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage ] [ Unofficial oneworld Info Desk ] |
I don't understand why the moderator guidelines would need to be public, they are after all called moderator guidelines. I doubt there will be anything important in them and imho they would just need to be a description of how to efficiently enforce the FT TOS as a moderator with some added practical suggestions and how to's...

Additionally,
It was pretty clear to me from BlondeBombers post that the guidelines had been developed by the TB and submitted to RANDY. Why ask the TB what the status is? If the status of these guidelines is that imnportant, why not e-mail Randy? |

Of course, I might wonder if you also read the other questions put to you above, and elsewhere, that yet remain unanswered, so... who knows? You aren't just ignoring them, are are? If so, why? Curiously, if you have "issues" with my post questioning the TB here, then why not simply stay out of the thread and/or email Randy yourself, as you suggest? Should we perhaps all abandon posting entirely, and begin to simply email each other? Isn't asking here my perogative, after all? Need I really explain to you, why I do what I do? Further, why in the world should I not ask? I guess we just have a difference of opinion here, I suppose! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif FWIW, for the benefit of others, I'd posted this, rather than emailed, largely because I'd thought it would be of some considerable interest to many, if not all, and not just to me! And as noted above in this very same thread quote: --------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Randy Petersen: ...Ultimately the TalkBoard will moderate the moderators and i think we leave that to them. In essense they become elected officials which will hopefully and truly represent the communities efforts... --------------------------------------------- http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum73/HTML/000270.html This quote above is another reason why, in essence, coupled with the very simple fact that I personally wanted to know! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Surely, you're well aware that I can/will email Randy directly if I should ever think something is particularly urgent and important! But thanks very much noinetheless! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Also, will the repeated requests/posts by you asking only why others do something EVER become a "dead horse," as you are inclined to so often say. Some may actually think it already is! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I know I do! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif BTW, how have you made out with your request for "Help with Stalker", CameraGuy? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/006035.html Perhaps you could finally provide an update? It's now well over two months? So many questions were posed by those attempting to be of help, including myself, and yet no answers at all, as of yet? Have you finally resolved this real and genuine concern? For the benefit of us all, please tell us how? Thanks! Have a great day/night everyone! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif -Mark |
