Doc,

You assumed correctly... TB is the place for the discussion...

You never know what we talk about... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

OH WAIT... some people seem to have a way.

Randy needs to request to someone he can post in CC? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

The Board put together and supports a nice set of guidelines for moderators and I've been putting aside the minutes to launch that initiative. They have been wonderful to work with and they have been thinking about the next elections and how we'll probably stagger the Board to have some continuity to continue with.</font>

Hurrah! And thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

doc, is there really any need to quote Randy's post here, when we can all read it for ourselves in the other thread (which is moreover in the same forum as this thread)?

IMHO, it is completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the discussion in this thread, which effectively ended several weeks ago. Even doctors recognise that sometimes letting the patient go is the right thing to do. How about a DNR on old threads, please?

Doc, this is getting annoying, please don't see this as a flame (unlike what a different member is doing at the moment) but what makes you think we don't see the other thread? It's way up on top in the list of active threads so I doubt anyone will need another link to it.

Just my 2 cents, imho etc...etc... and adding a smilie to let everyone know I am not angry http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As posted above:

"I noted that among the most important first duties as President of TalkBoard, cigarman promptly assigned Vice President Mike (chexfan) the roll of research and implementation of new 'Moderators' on FlyerTalk. This immediate action by the Board is expected to bring about a more even application of posting procedures and policing of member TOS violations."

So what gives, if anything, chexy? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Anything new at all? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Anybody? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I would hope that the moderators will enforce ALL aspects of the TOS. Including that oft ingnored paragraph about off-topic posts and topics.

Yep, we both seem to be in agreement, as I concur most heartily! For example, we surely need to stop "stuff" like this:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum.../002044-2.html

Hopefully we can all learn from our past mistakes! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

What do ya' think should be done when someone simply pops in, seemingly only to throw gas on a fire, just as it seems to be subsiding?

Any suggestions? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Anyone! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That is IMO a rather toxic thread Doc, I agree, and have said so elsewhere.

And I am not referring to any comments by you OR Camera Guy in it either. One rather preditable participant primarily derailed it IMO. And if TB or Chex or Cigarman etc ever do suggest threads to close, that would be one candidate. And reflect WHY it was closed.

I thought there was already a de-facto policy on off-topic and/or mis-posted threads, at least as of a few days ago.

So if a kid plays with matches and starts a fire, and then someone comes along and pours gasoline on it -- who is responsible for the fire?

Perhaps so, but isn't part of the "problem" the seemingly "variable" definitons(s) we seem to so often encounter? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

It seems that an "off-topic" or "misplaced" post, for example, may actually be defined by some as "any post made by someone that any given individual does not like, which may preceed or follow any comment posted by the inherently more rightful individual, thus rendering them correct and additionally absolving them of any responsibility for their own post(s) even if they should contain unnecessarily disparaging remark(s) about others!"

Hopefully, this will rapidly become a past problem! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Please tell us, opus, as I lay sleepless last night in bed for nearly the entire evening, simply wondering, in awe of your wisdom, what the "true" answer might be! As many others, who are also not so sage, surely must have been similarly suffering, I beg you to now kindly relieve all our angst, and promptly bestow upon us the "answer" that will abate our suffering! And thanks, in advance! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Since you put it so nicely...

You're a bright guy, doc.

You must realize that every once in a while you start a topic that is going to get the hornets buzzing.

When you, of all people, start a topic called "10,000 post club" ... well, are you really surprised, given the extensive history of posts about your posting on Flyertalk (I'm sure you can provide all the links http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ), what happens?

This isn't an attack, it is an observation. Post away, have fun. Having the most posts here has certainly given you the experience to know which type of topics start trouble, and which ones don't.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, so I choose not to continue further posts on the matter, nor do I choose to interpet your previous remarks as an attack on me.

doc Jul 26, 2002 6:12 pm

You are correct to see it as you have, i.e. not an attack, in that it was never meant to be, nor did I see yours as such! Truly, however, in my experiences, it is not so easy for me to know which type of topics start trouble, and which ones will not! Sorry! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Also, FWIW, I'm not a kid. Nor do I see myself as playing with matches! And the guy that comes in with the gas, on purpose, is surely equally or even more blameworthy, IMHO.

Nontheless, I thank you for your post and genuinely respect your opinion. And I'll think about it too, for that matter, as I'm not entirely closed minded about this! And your idea of not commenting further is a good one. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Perhaps I too should have done the same before even posting this! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks again! Have a great weekend! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
