While I know it's there, I'm not sure I've ever given a star rating to any FT threads.

As I understand it, the thread will not show any rating until several users rate it. In practice that never happens.Originally Posted by rwoman

In conjunction with any changes such as the one proposed by the OP I think TalkBoard should recommend removal of the current Thread Rating feature.

Lots of us use it over on Slickdeals. I put several threads per week on Ignore. It's a very obvious button, right next to the pin ("sticky") icon.Originally Posted by Maluku_Flyer

I have, but just once, I think. Just to see what effect my vote would have.Originally Posted by rwoman

It's probably pretty busy. I think, though, that it's more for looking for deals so probably a comparison might be to the S.P.A.M. or Mileage Run forums in terms of content?Originally Posted by Maluku_Flyer

I would like to point out this post by Randy Petersen when a similar topic was brought up before.

it's long been on our wish list and we came very close to installing as there was a "plug-in" for this sort of function for vBulletin. But as we moved closer to install, we found out that the "plug-in" was no longer supported for newer versions of vBulletin. For most of you, "plug-ins" was the older manner in which cool things could be added to vBulletin and they were developed by regular users of vBulletin (not the software company itself) and as such, you were really at the mercy that the developer would keep the plug-in up to date from bugs and that it would work with newer versions of the software. Anyway, a decision was made to not install a hack form this since it was not compliant to newer versions. We're hoping that when Internet Brands gets closer to installing the newer versions of vBulletin for FlyerTalk (we're several releases behind solely because FT is so large you want to be more than careful with anything new) that it will contain this feature. We think it could be of use for all members to help manage their experience.
It seems what I'm proposing garnered more support when it was labeled an Ignore button, but the concept is the same.it's long been on our wish list and we came very close to installing as there was a "plug-in" for this sort of function for vBulletin. Not everything is as it seems as very few members in that thread offered their support with more doing as we're doing now and simply talking about the concept. The linked thread does include a reply from IB about why it hasn't been installed and it's a good answer:Originally Posted by 18sas

The main reason for not implimenting this is because it will slow down the forum.

FWIW, I definitely see the use of a feature like this. I'm in the middle as to whether I'd personally use it, but I think it's something that can add value to the FlyerTalk experience for a lot of people.
As for the feasibility of implementing it, I'll just refer everyone to nsx's excellent comments above.
People using it or not aside, it appears that IB isn't in favor of it because it will slow everything down. IB-Dick provides an example in the link tcook052 provided. That post was from a few years ago, so things might have changed. If they have, then it's something to possibly consider. If it hasn't, then it's a moot point.
Cheers.
