I'm traveling in business class from JNB to SFO with a connection in Zurich. I'm being given the opportunity to bid for an upgrade from JNB to ZRH. If our part of three wins the bid, would we have access to the Swiss First Class Lounge in Zurich or would be have access to the Business Class Lounge per our connecting flight? Unfortunately, bidding is not available on our connecting flight to SFO. Any insights would be appreciated.

Your guest can make their own way to the FCL, arriving from JNB, best to ignore the F arrival service & head to FCL E with your guest

So if a party of three booked in business from JNB to ZRH gets upgraded to first class bidding using currently (presumably the Rand), would the three passengers be entitled to use the Swiss First Class E Lounge while waiting for their respective flight to SFO? None of the passengers are status holders in the M&M program. All of us will have had dinner before we arrive at the airport in Johannesburg so we wouldn't upgrade for the food or inflight service. The value of an upgrade for us would be lounge access and perhaps take advantage of the two bedrooms, as we have about 7 hours to wait for the connecting flight. Thanks for letting us know.

There are only 2 bedrooms & it’s on a first come basis but both have double beds.

What happens is the driver just tells the pax to “go up the lift and into the lounge”… the back entrance to the FCL A is quite invisible if you don’t know it’s there, and you’re in the lobby of Alpine, so it makes sense that pax wonder in there. The surprising part is the Alpine Lounge staff often seem not to tell pax to enter the FCL.

Hi all. I'm connecting through ZRH next week from UK to US. Usually the flight from BHX will be an apron arrival, so Business bus to the terminal. In the past, I have always made my way to E via the train - no passport control, but a security check in E. Generally easy enough.
Alternatively, would it be worth going to FCL A and getting a transfer to E from there, albeit it will require passport control to get into A? It would be nice to have some time in FCL E, but it's only a 95 minute connection. I'm just thinking of the quickest/easiest route to get there.

It will likely take you the same amount of time either way to get to FCL E, but with less fuss than taking the train and doing E security. That assumes you have easy immigration access in and out of the EU.
Added advantage of going via FCL A is that they have document check in there so you won’t have to stop by the stands near the US gates in E and get your boarding pass stamped there.

I would go directly to FCL E to avoid the Passport stamps
