Good evening,

I have a flight with Swiss from FCO to IAD via ZRH and JFK (JFK-IAD is a UA flight). I have a "stop over" in ZRH (if it matters: I think technically it is not a stop over as it is below 24h (I arrive 4:30PM on a Friday and fly out to JFK at 1PM on Saturday)).

Question (as I'm actually ZRH based):
When I continue my flight on Saturday to IAD via JFK: can I check-in luggage in ZRH (not having had any checked luggage from FCO to ZRH before)?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes. I recommend you only Check-in FCO-ZRH on Friday, then just do a "regular" check-in at ZRH on Saturday and check your bags.

No problem at all as long as all the pieces together are below the limit. You could check some in FCO and some in ZRH.

Just to rehash this question (although I believe Unterwegs has already answered it):

I have an itinerary LHR-ZRH-YUL, all on LX. I have about 5h in ZRH. My luggage allowance is ample.

Can I check in 1 bag LHR-YUL and then add a second checked bag (stuffed with chocolates, of course! ) for ZRH-YUL?

No problem at all.

You might better explain that you already have a piece checked in / show them the luggage receipt to make the process in ZRH faster. Especially the agents in T3 (near Migros/Coop) seem to be a bit clueless sometimes

The FCO bag can go straight through whilst you will have no troubles giving in an extra piece in ZRH. I do it frequently when moving possessions between US/CH/ZA. It is however quite interesting if you do it with TLV as destination... likely a visit to the "other" queue for a little chat...
