Flyertalk Book Exchange???
Just curious if there was ever an idea for a Flyertakl Book Exchange?
Essentially a place to trade / share travel related books or general reading books for those who travel.
IMO it would be a great idea and an easy way for Flyertalkers to save money and recycle old or once used books.

There was once one in the Coupon Connection - I remember trading Walter Kirn's Up in the Air & the book Coffee, Tea, or Me & Chicken Soup for the Traveler's Soul - a long time ago. Folks signed the inside of the book before mailing them onto other FTers. Not sure what happened with that thread & the books. I'm guessing people 1) Lost interest OR 2) Got lazy with spending the money to mail book.
Still, it's a good idea. I like how the AS lounges in SEA have book exchanges & think it'd be a good idea for airports. I definitely used the Read & Return programs at airport stores when I was traveling weekly.

Feel free to start a FlyerTalk Book Exchange thread in OMNI to see if interest can be developed.
There was a thread a few years ago but it never attracted much attention at that time.

I had wondered way back when whether guide books could be shared around FT but hadn't thought about more general fiction book swaps. I like to buy good DK or Eyewitness city & country guides for where I'm headed to help me get a grasp of the sights, history and culture of the destination but they lose they're relevence once you're back home so I thought we could recycle guide books with other FTers.

This was the original Consolidated Book Exchange Thread.
It was ultimately nuked when rules to restrict what could be traded in CC were enacted.
Since the pendulum has since swung back, with management encouraging an "anything goes" policy, I think this would once again be a welcome addition to FlyerTalk.
Like the "Who will be the next FlyerTalker to post" thread, a book exchange thread would be most dynamic with a "librarian" building statistics, tracking the books, keeping a list of who wants what book next. . .

If anyone still goes to OMNI it might have a chance there.
TravelBuzz! might be a possibility if worked out beforehand with management (if the anything goes allowance remains permanently in place).
Otherwise in the real 'anything goes' thread in Community, if that is left as a postathon (or if subsequently a postathon thread is left open in future).
The thread could work a little like the 'iGo travel charger tips' thread in TravelTech - if it can find a home. ^
I could throw in some travel & wine books for Australia.
