Date of Original Posting

Although I have suggested this before, I'll try again. I think it would be very helpful to have the thread titles in the forum listings carry the date of the original posting. For example:

2 free glasses & stirsticks from Maker's Mark
(Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page)
OP: SPort Sep 14, 05, 5:45 pm

Anyone reading this would immediately know that this is not a current offer.

I made the same suggestion to V-Flyer (now Britflyer) some time ago and this practice was immediately adopted. It has proved quite useful.:)

PTravel Dec 9, 2006 4:25 pm

I second this suggestions. It would make quick work of going through "new" posts.

wharvey Dec 9, 2006 5:18 pm

I so agree, I hate it when I click on a thread to find someone has bumped a 3 year old thread.

I had made this request a few years ago and was told it was not available due to the BBS software FT was using.

I wonder if this could be added with the new software?

TIM? MIKEL?

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

rkt10 Dec 9, 2006 11:04 pm

I made the same request and got the same reason as WHarvey got. Yup, I agree, it really would help.

Taiwaned Dec 10, 2006 5:33 am

It would be a form of date stamping.

Think it would be a great idea.

SkeptiCallie Dec 10, 2006 11:06 am

Totally agree. ^ Several times I've been typing out a reply post only to realize that the thread is old and makes the response I was typing irrelevant. Of course, one could argue that one can respond to the latest posts, but if your post was to respond to the first one, a bummer. . . . (Of course, I guess one could also argue that after a few times, one might remember to check the original post date before typing away, but anyhow. . . . :( )

soitgoes Dec 11, 2006 8:51 am

here, here!

It would be a great addition!

Kiwi Flyer Dec 11, 2006 3:21 pm

looks like this has been done - thanks HOM ^

Tim at WebFlyer Dec 11, 2006 3:25 pm

This has been added, though in a slightly different layout:

Date of Original Posting
rapariga on Dec 9, 06 at 3:55 pm

Looks like it has already been found by Kiwi Flyer though! :P

Prospero Dec 11, 2006 3:36 pm

Tim,

I have posted my reaction elsewhere but can I ask here if it possible to tweak the format to improve clarity eg.

Prospero on today at 10:36pm

Actually, I'd prefer the ability to switch it off altogether. Would this possible via MyFlyerTalk > Edit Options ?

justageek Dec 11, 2006 3:39 pm

I too would very much like the option to switch off the new format. It is definitely headache-inducing for some of us. :)

hiyo Dec 11, 2006 3:51 pm

Thanks for the useful addition. ^

wharvey Dec 11, 2006 3:59 pm

Tim,

What a great improvement... will take some getting used to.

But it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

William

I was going to suggest this same color change as well.

It was the closest colour to white available in the palette :D

Me too. Too much clutter for my eyes.

schmare Dec 11, 2006 4:18 pm

I agree that it looks very cluttered now - will take some getting used to.

Perhaps only the date of the first post could be included rather than date and time? It seems if this was added so that people don't unsuspectingly click on ancient threads, that having a date alone would be enough.

It looks like they did it! ;)

Tim at WebFlyer Dec 11, 2006 4:25 pm

I have taken some of the secondary suggestions into consideration including the following:

- Removed the time, leaving just the date of thread origination.
- Lightened the color of the new information.
- Made it grammatically compatible with the forums "Today" and "Yesterday" dates.

Lets see how this works for everyone. :D

Prospero Dec 11, 2006 4:27 pm

Thank you Tim, toning down the date info makes an enormous difference. The handle of the OP also pops out very nicely - overall much, much easier on the eye. Appreciate the patience you've extended to us purists ^

planeluvr Dec 11, 2006 4:30 pm

Looks great!

magiciansampras Dec 11, 2006 4:30 pm

I still think it stinks. Anyway to turn it off?

mahasamatman Dec 11, 2006 4:38 pm

The grey is better, but I still think a rollover would be even better. That makes it easily accessible for the 5% of the time when you care (like when you don't recognize the thread title) and out of the way for the 95% of the time when you don't.

I like the tweaks now ^

thanks very much for that :)

justageek Dec 11, 2006 5:07 pm

Would still be nice to be able to completely disable it on a per-user basis.

UnitedSkies Dec 11, 2006 5:12 pm

Much better.

Canarsie Dec 11, 2006 5:40 pm

I like it.

Thank you, Tim at WebFlyer.

SkeptiCallie Dec 11, 2006 5:51 pm

Thanks. Very helpful!

Tennisbum Dec 11, 2006 5:55 pm

Thanks, Tim. I really like having the date of the beginning of the thread.

OTOH, I find the light gray difficult to read, but I realize that I'm distinctly in the minority on that.

rkt10 Dec 11, 2006 6:45 pm

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is wonderful.

Agreed.

Even with the additional tweaks, the second line distracts the eye from the thread title.

bitburgr Dec 11, 2006 8:18 pm

I like how it looks (although the hover suggestion would be good too).

redbeard911 Dec 11, 2006 9:13 pm

I think I can get used to it. It's easy to tune it out if you like.

I agree 101%.

Amanda Dec 11, 2006 9:27 pm

Thanks for the date addition. I like to know right away when I am looking at an old thread.

the_traveler Dec 11, 2006 9:29 pm

I like having the date only 150% better! Thank you Tim.

I second that!

Raffles Dec 12, 2006 2:03 am

Can we please make "Today" into "today" and "Yesterday" into "yesterday"?!

slippahs Dec 12, 2006 2:05 am

Tim, thanks for listening. :)
