first message = index, for very long threads?
Hi all, I have a suggestion --
for very long threads which run over a few pages (or however long you choose to make the cut), is it possible to have moderators or individuals self-contribute to maintaining a first message in that thread, which would be a current index/summary (with index post numbers/page numbers) of the interesting posts along the way?
As it is now, when a topic gets over a certain number of pages, it becomes difficult to know when something new and interesting has been added, because the mechanical/visual fatigue of paging through and finding where you left off is just too much. In the recent discussion of the cheese coupon fiasco at the AA board, there has been a recent update that the company would not be honoring the offer, but for someone trying to find that specific message in the thread, or even where that news approximately begins appearing, it is impossible to find in 44 pages of discussion.
For example, see http://www.woot.com, under "Discuss this product", where someone or some people actively summarize what has been discussed in the very long threads, so that you can jump to the section that interests you.
thanks.
