Suggestion: Stop elections....

If the elections are causing the problem with the functionality of FlyerTalk, or keeping the problems from being fixed, then I suggest we do away with elections.

I have no idea what they are for anyway except to keep the website screwed up.

Could you explain more? How do you see that the elections are screwing up the functionality of FlyerTalk? I don't believe the elections have anything to do with the functionality of FlyerTalk.

From what I gather from other threads, the search function and the New Posts function can not or will not be repaired until the "elections" are over. I have no idea what elections they are talking about but I think they have something to do with FlyerTalk.

Do you know when these elections will be completed?

I would give you the specific threads but......the search does not work.

The elections are over, and the results have been announced in Community today.

Sorry, the search function problem really doesn't have anything to do with the elections per se. It requires shutting down FT entirely for a few hours to synch and rebuild our search function which was caused to go out of wack when one of our servers failed recently. I sincerely hope you don't think we just sit around all day smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee and only get to things when we finish reading the sports pages - especially the results of the horse races (just teasing you). One of the tech guys that was to fix the problem has been out sick for a few days and that's really the problem. And please, put far away from any thoughts that you may ever have that we like it when things don't work. There's a lot of traffic here, a lot of moving parts among various servers and bandwidth and it's great when things go fine, but as i said, there's a lot of moving parts here and on occasion they all don't want to work together.

Thank you for your patience.

Randy

It has been suggested by one of the Mods, on the Technical Issues board, that search would not be fixed until after the elections.

I'm not speaking for Randy or another mod but

and is is possible that the ratoinale for not fixing it till after the elections was that FT has to be down for it to be fixed?? And that FT being down for the elections would not be a good thing?

just my 2 cents...

Thanks Randy for explaining the reason why the search function problem hasn't yet been fixed. Too bad this couldn't have been explained earlier, and in the proper forum. I don't believe many people would think of looking here to learn that one of the technicians is out sick.

Concerning the confusion about the relationship between the search problem and the elections, Tim at WebFlyer said that the site won't be taken down for maintenance while the elections were still in progress. Thus the name of this thread.

Finally, to the OP, shame on you for not knowing about the elections, nor what they were for. I'm just amazed that weren't aware of them. Your vote could have avoided a 3 way run-off, from Nov. 2-9.
