Please increase timeout parameter

Why is the timeout so short? Please increase it! When I am composing a detailed post I often find that when I hit the preview or submit button I am redirected to the login screen. When I log back in all my work is lost.

This just happened to me on a post which contained information I think could have been of real use. But my time is of value and I do not have the time to reconstruct the entire thing (which included quotes from various external sources).

When I read your thread title, I first thought you meant "increase timeouts" (suspensions). I was like...huh?

I would think many others - including myself - are OK with the current parameters. In fact, I do not remember ever getting "timed" out even though I have been online for awhile... hours at a time.

One solution for you might be to copy your post (before hitting submit) just in case it does not take. That way, it would be in your clipboard... you could just log back in and paste.

Sounds like this is a normal problem for you....

Well, I am pleased the current parameter is fine for you. But it is not for me. Exactly what harm would it do you or anyone else to increase it?

gilpin,

How long are you online before you are "logged out"? I have to say I have been logged in for hours and never got "timed out". So, I am not sure if it is a problem on the FT side or your own network side.

I also know people in the past have talked about how they accidently leave a public terminal and forget to sign out... so having FT do a sign out is good for them.

For example, I was in the LHR RCC last November and happen to come to the Flyertalk site. It took me there... but it automatically had me logged in as another user. I immediately emailed that user to tell him about the problem... and then logged him out.

Trying to be helpful... if your post is honestly taking hours to put together you may want to compose it in a word processor and then copy it over when it is finished. I know people do that with long trip reports.

Oh, I am not talking about anything approaching hours, it only takes 10 minutes to lose my post. This only happens when I am composing a post. If I am just browsing I can stay logged on for hours at a time with no problem.

To the OP, I have encountered this problem and would tend to agree, however I also understand the other side, and would hate to see someone's FT account misused.

I have just made a habit of checking "remember me" and then ensuring I log out before I leave the public terminal. That way I stay logged in. Just don't forget to log out when you're done.
