Searching, the Archive, and Google

Don't mean to criticise too much, but generally the search function tends to be quite slow, and not terribly accurate. I don't know how it indexes data, but it can be quite hit and miss trying to find a thread, especially as there are no rankings, and the search will only link to the entire thread, not the post with the results in.

I notice that google does index parts of the site, you can constrain a search using site:flyertalk.com, and google will only search Flyertalk. All of the threads in the URL are from the archive though.

That leads me to another question, how does the archive relate to the main part of FT? Is the archive immediately updated? Does it have all the content? As I've had problems using google to find a thread too.

I suppose the end point I'm after, is a quick, accurate search.

If the FT servers don't have the processing power, then it makes sense to get it indexed by google instead. FT is a free service after all, and I'm very grateful to Randy for providing it.

I just wondered what the site admins thoughts on this are?

Thanks!
