Calendars
Hi
Not sure if this is the right place - please move thread if not.
I have just noticed that from http://www.flyertalk.com/eventsfr.shtml there are separate calendars for FTers visiting places, events and flights.
However there are also the calendar for DOs and events, the itineraries forum and the community forum - which seem to serve the same purpose.
It appears there is not linkage between these, and the first lot of calendars dont seem to be as well publicised - or at least doesnt seem to be as well used - as the second lot of calendar and fora.
Is there are need for the apparent duplication? Which set is preferred for folk to update?

The community forum and the DO calendar go hand in hand...or are meant to. Sometimes its not feasible to read through all of the threads in the community forum if all you want to know is "whats going on where" on a certain weekend. It was attempted to have one thread where all events were listed in date order, but it became too monumental a task to keep up. Unfortunately not everyone uses the calendar function for everything they've posted in community...myself included. Perhaps a sticky reminder would be in order in the Community forum to post to the calendar once dates and venues are set.
The itineraries function is more to see if you have another FTer on a flight with you as opposed to actually wanting to set aside time to meet up with one.

Fascinating! I never knew there were so many calendars.
Regardless, I love my Community Do calendar as it is. Randy was very gracious, and made the birthday calendar separate from the Do calendar, so that we could see the Dos easily. Whe I see an event I'm attending not posted on the Do calendar, I email the host. It's a great resource to help organizers keep from having events in similar parts of the world at the same time.

With the new format for the entry page to FlyerTalk, I can better see the issue that Kiwi Flyer has raised. There is a page that lists the calendars. Two calendars appear to be duplicative.
The Events calendar appears to be the one that we used when we submitted events to the House of Miles to enter in the calendar. The second appears to be the one that Randy established for us, allowing us to enter our events ourselves. Should the older events calendar be closed?

I know Tim and I won't have hurt feelings.

Maybe this is something for Talkboard and Randy to discuss.

Bump...
A few weeks ago, I 'applied' to have KiwiFest added on to the Events calendar, not realising there's a Community Do one too.
Anyway, I was expecting KiwiFest to appear on Events eventually. It never did, but now I've found it on the Community Do (thanks for KiwiFlyer, I think).
Now, people are getting caught up with the Bali Do, OzFest 3 and, to a certain extent, KiwiFest. I've to say I never thought of checking the calendar when deciding on the date for KiwiFest, it turned out to be a 'free' weekend on the calendar anyway (but that's a mute point).
Can we close the Events calendar?
Also, while I appreciate KiwiFlyer posting KiwiFest on the Community calendar (assuming that was him), I don't want him to get swamped with enquiries and stuff should people find the Do via this mean, when I'm the one organising it. How can we change that? (If KF doesn't mind having his name there, then I don't really care.)
Lastly, to promote the use of a calendar when organising Do's, can we have a sticky on the Community Forum showing the calendar?
I hope I'm making sense...

I dont mind - I posted a link to the Kiwi Fest thread there.
However, I do think we should combine some of the options. Too many places to look.
