Close Discontinued Programs to Posting

Now that the bar for posting on Coupon Connection and OMNI has been set to 100, I (and others) have noticed that there's been a lot of activity in the Discontinued Programs sections of the board. Its obvious to me that this activity is superfluous posting by new members eager to get above that bar.

Since these forums are unmoderated and are in place largely for archival purposes, shoudn't they be closed to new posts?

I second this suggestion. I just went through some of those forums and it's ridiculous what some people are doing to circumvent the rules. After I read whatever the ridiculous nonsense post says, I look to the left and under post count it reads something close to 100.

Does this really surprise anyone?

Wasn't this anticipated?

Eagerly awaiting the next "solution," I guess!

Perhaps, in time, we will eventually realize that the only way to stop the incessant "nonsense" is to prohibit a few "not so well intentioned members" from posting to any FT thread(s).

Just my 0.01 worth,

Mark

Actually, in the moderator's board I gave these guys credit for taking the initiative. They didn't do anything "wrong" per se, I just don't think it should be too easy, hence the suggestion.

You know, be part of the solution, not part of the problem, and all that.

Be careful what you wish for.

Oh I can think of at least 2 folks who would DIE if their post counts in discontinued forums were deleted from their current tally. And I understand we are talking here of 1000s not 100s of posts.

I don't recall advocating tampering or adjusting anyone's post counts. I do recall advocating closing "discontinued programs" forums to new posts. I'm advocating this suggestion as a way to prevent people that like to use fake ID's from padding the counts on those fake IDs.

I still think it would be a good idea to act on this suggestion.

You don't understand a thing, and FWIW when FT migrated I DID lose those posts, every post in my current post count has been a legitimate one.

Now, while on the subject of post counts, perhaps you could ask the FT staff to add the posts made under all your multiple handles to your current post count, I'm sure you'd beat me right away again. At least it would bring an end to the incessant whining we get from you every few weeks.

Is post count THAT important to you? I'm sure you really are the clear winner as I made my posts without ANY interruptions (read: timeouts), whereas you have had the most interruptions of any member of this community.

"Squirm uneasily" is not the same as "get annoyed".

Perhaps one should ask why this thread was dredged up from the deep after, what, 8 weeks of inactivity?

Member sniping aside, the original idea in the thread is likely a good one.

Back on topic...

Another good example as to why these forums need to be "read ony"
