Angry Message is too short

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I find it incredibly annoying to have to pad my post with blank spaces to post a YGM or other short message. Do any better solutions exist? Or can the software be fixed to accept shorter messages?

We can set the minimum message length ourselves, but we choose not to.

To hopefully get people to post comments with substance, rather than a simple smiley or a "YGM". You can still post those things, but you'll have to pad your post to make them go through. We feel it's a fair tradeoff.

Of course there are certain 'tricks' to pad the post without appearing to have done so...

Such as the following reply...
