Can we have a panic button?

Last evening, we had a thread in buzz that needed to be killed asap. I had to go find a thread by our moderator to grab his email address. I feared he was out of town and knew Randy was.

I think it makes sense to have a red button up near the header that says "Moderator Alert" .. I also think it makes sense to create an email address (e.g. [email protected]) that has a small background distribution list - say all moderators and someone inside FT (other than Randy). When you click on this Moderator Alert button, the message would be sent to all of these folks in the background.

Gratefully, Craig WAS in town and was on top of this in moments. But you know, he's on this board because he travels . As do all our moderators and Randy. It just seems to me that by alerting all moderators and someone who is normally in the House of Miles, that we could insure an adequate response time to these kind of poison posts.

Actually I am on the road, and it may have been coincidence that I saw it relatively quickly.

Pam,

You can always send email to [email protected] any time and we'll see it during normal business hours (9-5 MT).

I realize that Lisa - and thank you for the reminder. I'm just not sure that everyone realizes that webmaster@ is a fairly universal option - and I also think a lot of this stuff - e.g. the one last evening - happens after normal business hours. By having a single click option w/ a distribution list behind it, you could reach FT staff or moderators, whomever is first available.

Good point...

The only catch with creating such a distribution list is keeping up with changes. Moderators who are out of town, for instance, would be innundated with emails. Plus we'd have to do some serious hacking to make the correct panic button show up in the correct forums because of the way UBB is set up. We'll kick it around a bit here and see if there's any feasible way to implement this, but we may run into too many problems.

I thought maybe one of those tabs across the top - sort of like the one for TalkMail.. I don't know that it has to be visisble on EVERY opened forum.. so someplace handy. And hopefully there won't be SO many emails that a moderator being on the road would cause a storage problem on your email server..
