I often hover my cursor over a thread title so I can preview the contents before deciding to read it. However, if the initial post begins with:

Wirelessly posted...

nothing happens when you hover the cursor. (The same is true if a post starts with a quote.)

It's annoying. These day, what's the point of knowing that something was wirelessly posted? (And is it even accurate? I'm posting this--no wires--from my laptop yet it doesn't claim to be wirelessly posted.) Is this a Blackberry thing or does the wireless annotation originate in FT? Any way to work around it so one can still preview the message?

The "Wirelessly posted" message is a function of, and comes from people using the mobile version of the site. Whether both mobile versions, I'm not sure as I now use the full version on my BlackBerry using Opera Mini. So if I post, it won't have that statement and browser type because I'm hitting the full site, not the mobile site.

As to your issue, never experienced it as I don't use FT the way you do but I'm off to go see if I have the same problem!

I'll take this opportunity to reiterate that the "Wirelessly Posted" messages are pointless and annoying as well as dated (wirelessly posting messages was a novelty a few years back, but it no longer is).

This very well may be something tied to programming by the WiForums folks, who provide the WAP mobile version of FT. FlyerTalk, IB, and VBB may not have any control over the WiForums code.

I do think there is some value in letting people know a message was posted from a handset instead of a full computer, as it lets people know to be more forgiving of typos and other mistakes. Emails from smartphones are often tagged with similar notes, which I find valuable even as a recipient, since I then know that the sender likely didn't have the time and screen real estate to do a full analysis of the situation or detail. If I were to receive a one-line email either saying something curt or, if a reply, not fully addressing my original message, I would assume the sender were being rude or not treating me with the time and respect that any human being deserves. The mobile device tag lets me know that such is not intentional but rather a function of the limiting interface available to the sender.

I also don't find them overly intrusive, given their small font, although there are a couple of downsides (such as that pointed out by the OP). If a more integrated way of notating the person was posting from a mobile were implemented in the vBulletin software (an icon or somesuch), that would be optimal, but that would understandibly not be on the top of the priority list for fixes to the forum software.

You're on to something. There should be an app that's wired to a breath alcohol sensor on your phone, and it automatically tags your outgoing e-mails with your blood alcohol content.

Yeah - it's kind of retarded. Like the "Sent from my Blackberry wireless handheld" tags on email, it might have had a cool factor 10 years ago, but still, otherwise useless (even 10 years ago).

Put it at the end, not the beginning. Problem solved.

I am trying to figure out a way to block my Xperia from sending that message at all. It's not anyone's business that I am not sitting in my own home or at least typing on a regular computer. I don't like advertising my phone, operating system or anything else. That information should be my choice to share.

There isn't. It's inserted by the WiForums software package that is used to provide the mobile interface.

The solution is to just use the regular site. That's actually what I do on my iPhone (not because I don't want that message posting--I couldn't care less about it posting--but rather because I like the fuller functionality of the regular site).

At the start it was amusing but these days I'm getting a little annoyed also by the "Wirelessly posted..." part that gets automatically tacked on, for me it serves no meaning whatsoever. Also if I quote a message that contains that text, it also gets into the quote and I have to delete it manually.
Until there's a workaround (which I hope will come sometime) as jackal mentioned, if I want to post something from my phone I go to the full site, but it's slower and the screen is rather cramped for input.

Perhaps have literally only "Wirelessly posted" but without all that excess (browser, etc.) info?
