Hit and Run Thread Starters

My suggestion is to not allow "hit and run" thread starters from starting any more threads. Most especially folks with only a few posts. The latest example I have are threads llke this one

Nightmare at Hilton Garden Inn

The OP claims her stay with upgrades a nightmare, leaves out lots of info. And does not answer a single question on a forum meant to spur discussion. Threads like these do not contribute to the quality of this forum.

There is no way to track the type of user you are describing. Just continue to report any individual post you think breaks the FT rules.

It would be trivial to prevent posters with fewer than 5, 10, <other number of> posts from starting new threads. Just like there's a minimum number to post in Wiki post - which seems rather high. After all, there have been loads of one-post-ranters that were never heard from again.

That's true. And yet, there are many who are drawn to FlyerTalk because they have a specific question. I am unwilling to restrict the many because the few irritate us, myself included.

On the other hand there are threads like this, where a first-time poster has a serious issue and responds to questions:

OK, I get the point. Wasn't such a great idea. That said, I still miss TalkBoard.

even when all they do is start threads, sometimes those threads get interesting replies

Some of these “drive by” posts from what some term “one post wonders” spur considerable discussion, providing some value to members even if the poster never returns.

The Community Director’s post is the final word on this issue. Thank you for sharing your suggestions.
