are mini-bar keys within the same hotel interchangeable?

Long after departing from the Westin DC City Center Monday morning, I realized that the mini-bar key had fallen into my pocket when pulled out the jacket containing the room keys.

Unsure whether the hotel might need the key for that particular room, I returned to the hotel and dropped the mini-bar key at the front desk. I would feel badly if the hotel were stuck without a working key.

Does anyone by chance know whether the mini-bar keys are interchangeable, or does each room's mini-bar have an unique key?

I'm pretty sure they are intechangable... the ones I have seen are all pretty generic looking....

They definitely are! We stayed in 2 rooms and only had 1 key, used it on both without any problems.

Thanks for the above replies. I suspected all rooms probably have the same mini-bar key since the keys do not have room numbers. I didn't feel right about leaving (albeit unintentionally) with something that would cost the hotel money to replace, so I have no regrets about my extra trip back to the front desk.
