Sunday night holiday weekend is not weekend rate?

I am going to be in DC mid-Jan, during MLK weekend. Checking in on Wed, out on Monday. I'm booked at the standard rate for Wed and Thurs nights. Then it goes down significantly for Fri and Sat nights to a weekend rate. Then, Sunday night, it jumps back to a standard rate, even tho Monday is a holiday.

It used to be that I could get a weekend rate on such a Sunday night if during a long holiday weekend. No more.

Has this changed systemwide for Starwood, or is it a property-specific decision? When I contacted the property, the agent snickered and said she could not understand why I would even make such a request.

I think it just depends upon how an individual property has it set up rather than being a system-wide change. For some hotels, Sunday's are not treated as weekend nights because a lot of folks choose to arrive on Sunday for weekday meetings. So, supply and demand has raised the ante for some Sunday arrivals in some destinations.

Even though MLK Day is a national holiday, a lot of companies still don't recognize it so you're probably just not getting the typical 3-day weekend effect.
