Starwood Platinum: Achieve by CC Spend?
Sorry to hijack this post but does anyone know if one can achieve Platinum status through credit card spending? I can't seem to find any info through research. Thanks in advance.

Well, you could spend $75K on a Ritz Carlton Rewards Visa which would give you Platinum in the RC program which would then be matched into SPG Plat.

If you can get the US Marriott Visa, it comes with 15 nights plus another night for every $3k spent. So with enough spend you should be able to get Marriott Plat which now gets you SPG Plat as well.
Also the RC card will get you Marriott Gold the first year instantly and the 2nd year on if you spend $10k. You get Marriott Plat with $75k spend.
So it is now possible, but whether it is worth it or not is a different question.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions
As it was posited .... depends on the value one attaches to being a Platinum. Thanks again to you all.

Just a quick question; am a current Platinum however will not reach 25/50 in 2016.
Is this correct, if I reach 25/50 in the first quarter of 2017, I will be Platinum for the rest of 2017, 2018 and Jan/Feb 2019.

Yes, presuming the merged program still works like the separate systems have been working. If you are able to work the numbers right you only need to do the 25/50 every other year and keep Platinum status full time.

SPG Platinum Expiring
Our SPG Platinum status will expire Feb 28 th ( I believe, I can't figure out when we actually qualified for it). But assuming that is true, if we check into
our booked hotel on, say, Feb 25th, will we receive Platinum benefits for our entire stay, even if the stay goes over March 1st?

Based on what you wrote, you should receive benefits, based on your status at the time of check in.

Would SPG thrown me a bone by granting me Plat status with 21 stays and 42 nights for the year? I realize this is likely a long shot, given I would end the year 4 stays and 8 nights short. I had miscalculated the number of stays/nights toward the end of the year, relied on my errorneous calculations, and instead tried out some Marriott properties.
