SPG Gold from SPG AMEX

SPG Gold from SPG AMEX
Sorry for the kind of confusing post, but I am actually a no status SPG member who happens to be a prolific SPG AMEX user so i have my fare share of points. That being said, I think I recall that one of the new "enhancements" being offered was SPG Gold status for anyone who charges >30,000 in a year. Anyway we have a SPG stay in March at the Westin in Rome and while I know that Gold status doesnt grant one much, it is better than nothing and was wondering when I could expect this perk.

Do you have elite membership with an airline? Some airlines have been giving away SPG Gold memberships for free. A search should bring up more info.

If Eligible Spending on your Card account is $30,000 or more in calendar year 2006, your Gold Preferred Guest® status within the Starwood Preferred Guest program will become effective on or about March 1, 2007.
Willing to help out but you should do a little research on your own first or click on the thread provided by slippahs...

March 1 is now 1 day away. Has anyone here been moved up to Gold based on AmEx spending yet?

I received a flyer in the mail to "Enjoy elite status. With our compliments." It is not clear if this is related to the Amex spend 30K a year and get Gold. The directions are to just go to http://spg.com/promo and enter your SPG number. With this flyer, not only do you get Gold, but get double starpoints until May 31, 2007.

Yeah, I called back in October when they started the promo since by that point I had already exceeded my $30k. They upgraded me right away in October.

I checked the SPG site just now and find I was upgraded to Gold. I don't think I spent $30,000 on Amex in 2006, but I did register for the promo which promised Gold with a stay within the next few weeks. Strange thing is that although I have booked a couple of stays, I haven't travelled yet.
