The best way would be to contact Corporate Customer Service and let them know. They will pass along your comments to the GM's office.

Wow, thank you for your thorough report.

We reserved 1502 (one bedroom suite) and 1501 (adjoining room) which I believe are joined at the side of the hotel that faces the ocean.

We will take your tips into account.

Truly a great resort with kids. Hope they like lizards! The food everywhere is, um, well, good for kids, anyway.

We're here now - this place is great. I hope to give a bit more detail when I get back.

If you eat at Terraces, tell Evelyn (one of the servers) that the family with the boy-girl 3-year old twins send their regards. We had her for lunch every day two weeks ago.

Just sent in a nice note to CS about her and got a prompt response.

Restaurants: The Westin is at one end, with all of the hotels on one side of the road and the restaurants on the other. One of them was a pizza place and the other was a barbecue place that looked like it was owned by the same people who owned Senor Frog's.

My wife and I just returned from our 12th trip to Aruba, and commented that it's hard not to have good meals in Aruba, so I have to disagree with the OP on this. We ate at two restaurants that were on the same strip Mike was on this trip - Soenchi's (an Aruban restaurant) and Amuse Bistro (a French/Caribbean place) that are easy walks from the Westin, and both were great.

Even with young kids, there are a number of good restaurants available an easy walk from the Westin - you just have to be willing to avoid places that look like Senor Frogs. :) I'd recommend:

Soenchi's - Aruban
Amuse Bistro (in the Playa Linda) - French/Caribbean
Salt & Pepper - Tapas
Gianni's - Italian
Tandoor - Indian
Japengo (in the Hyatt) - Japanese

As well as lots of others - both arubarestaurants.com and restaurantsaruba.com have good recommendations.

Has anyone been here since March who can tell me how they handle the new platinum breakfast benefit?

thaliajen Jul 25, 2012 7:25 pm

I'm returning after a few years and wonder if they're still good about Plat upgrades? Also, I can't recall how I GOT to the hotel from the airport. Do they have shuttle services at the airport, and if not, what is an average cab ride going to cost me? Do they take US Dollars? I'm guessing NO b/c for some reason I have tons of Dutch/Aruban coins floating about my house. Need I exchange money before arriving at the hotel?

PS-sorry for all the questions, I've spent so many trips this year in Mexico and Bahamas and even the DR, that I've forgotten my beloved Aruba!

Yes, but there are only two real suites per floor. You have to insist to get one.

There are lots of taxis at the airport, but I rented a car. Even the major international car rental companies have junkie old cars, but it makes seeing the island and going to out of the way beaches much easier.

They accept USD and EUR everywhere.

Thanks! I'll hope for a suite upgrade, and as I don't like to drive much anyway, I will find a taxi, I'm sure. I checked my Passport and it looks as if I haven't been there since 2008, but that can't be right! Maybe I'm missing a stamp?

Anyway, I hope the hotel lives up to its old reputation! I read a few things on Trip Advisor that made me wonder if things had changed. I guess I'll find out on Saturday!

We were just there earlier this month.

We didn't trust the availability of a Platinum upgrade, so we paid the extra points for the full suite. I believe there are 2 junior suites and 2 full suites per floor, so the inventory is quite limited.

Taxis are fixed price by zone. Airport to/from high rise hotel area is $25USD.

Everyone takes USD. No need to change to Florins. You may get Florins back as change though if you use USD...

Has anyone been recently? I was tempted to get the all inclusive (alcohol) plan but it's $100 per person, per day and you're pretty much stuck drinking on the resort.

Figured instead of eating 'resort food', we can venture off to other good restaurants within the area.

I opted for the Presidential Suite so we'll probably go to the liquor store and it will be much cheaper. But late night, our bar tabs will probably suck. Anyone ever done the all inclusive? Any must see places or things to do?

welookgood.com Oct 8, 2012 8:51 am

Any recent feedback?

Is the $100 /per person/per day food and drink plan still available? If you are there for 10 days, can you get just for the first 5?

Do you get starpts for getting it?

Was there last February, Super place, was upgraded,
Lot of places to eat within an easy walk...
Restaurants on the property are great.
Bus stop near the property, to run downtown...
Good trip...don't miss the Managers Party,

EleanorMcDaniel Oct 17, 2012 8:47 pm

I just left this resort after attempting to check in to two different rooms.

Neither had serviceable internet and I'm here on business.

The manager was kind, cancelled my reservation, and even had a car take me to the Marriott.

C'est la vie.

Maybe it was just a temporary problem. When I was there they had two speeds of internet available -- a slower speed, available free to everyone, and a higher speed, paid or free for platinum SPG guests. The higher speed work well.
