Advice needed - Ottawa Canada Booking Aug 21-24 Which Program?

Hi All - I have approx. equal number of points in the Marriot and SPG programs and currently planning a 3 night get-away to Ottawa Canada that I want to book this week. Can someone help guide me in the following:

1. Tell me which program I should use to book this 3 night stay in this week (before consolidation of the programs)?
2. Is there a preferred property be at?

Note: I have elite benefits in both programs and not picky on exact location since we will be out at Le Nodik Spa, and around the market and town doing various activities but want to be near or in downtown.

Thanks!

I believe it does matter because I'm planning to book something in the next day so need to decide which program to redeem in and which property until the merge......

No, it really doesn't matter (unless there's a lifetime status issue, or the possibility of earning more SNAs from SPG, neither of which you have indicated).

Absent those considerations, I would pick based on the better property/value.

There's only one scenario where I think it might matter and that involves completing legacy requirements for elite earning through December 31, 2018. For instance, if you want to complete the legacy earning requirements for reaching 2MM lifetime points in MR by the end of the year, you need to stay at a legacy MR property. Likewise, if you are trying to reach Platinum in SPG with 25 nights, you need to stay at a legacy SPG property. These were two things that were unique to each program, so if you are trying to use legacy requirements, my best advice is to do so where this uniqueness will continue until the end of the year after the programs combine.
