Dubai : Marriott management of St Regis / W / Westin to be terminated 31 Jul 2018

Hi to all..

https://gulfnews.com/business/sector...tels-1.2249468

Marriott International and Al Habtoor Group say they have agreed to end a contract to manage three ultra-luxury hotels in the heart of Dubai.

After months of rumoured unrest, Marriott International, the largest hotel group in the world, will “no longer manage or otherwise be associated with” The St. Regis Dubai, W Dubai Habtoor City, and The Westin Dubai Al Habtoor City, with effect from July 31, 2018.
The service was very bad when i stay at westin last time, i dont know what is the reason but its a big hit to the owner Mr. al habtoor.

If any one know what is the reason please let us know ..
Thanks

Huge amount of room / bad price positioning /Very low occupancy / high and expensive standard to respect and they want to manage their hotels (as some others they have) under their own brand as I understood. As I understood they tried to renogociate more flexible conditions with marriott who refused.

st regis and w require management contract, good if it seems marriott is maintaining that

(not franchising those brands, nor de facto franchising via outsourcing like park hyatt)

I believe in this case all properties were under SPG (Marriott) management.

From the news report it appears that Marriot and the owner reached an amicable understanding to rescind the management contracts. Perhaps Marriott was paid a break-up fee.

We have now, along with a summary added to the OP.

Incidentally, since when was the Westin an “Ultra-luxury” hotel ?

I didn't realize how big the footprint was. In any case, Grosvenor House (LC) stays. It's a lovely property; I stayed there for a week in May. Booked a two bedroom suite, PLT upgrade to a three BR suite. The Exec. Club was quite nice, breakfast was wonderful. Staff very accommodating; every request was met with a smile. I highly recommend it. It's also completely free of the stereotypical Dubai glitz. ^

Hilton is taken the three hotels over as “LXR hotels” (former St Regis) , V Hotel Curio collection (former W) and Hilton (former Westin)
https://m.gulfnews.com/business/sect...tels-1.2259580
so SPG / Habtoor does not work well (other st Regis / Polo Resort reflagged as well from Habtoor )

I wonder what happen with the Habtoor Grand resort in JBR, it’s currently still part of Marriotts Autograph Collection. Does it also belong to the Habtoor group like the name would suggest?
