30k points = $682.50 x 2 (spouse) = $1365-> 60k points Add 20k from existing balance = 80k points which come August 1st -> 5 nights (4+1) at Cat 7 properties. Add value of 20k to 60k and the total cost for the 5 night Cat 7 award is $1706.

So this makes sense only if you need at least 5 nights and can find a room that would normally cost >$341/nt including tax (I'm not factoring the points you would earn from the stay/spend).

Hmmm, I'm thinking there are some St. Regis properties that probably fit the bill, plus the usual high cost locations such as NYC, Venice, etc.

Any other suggestions?

Addendum: Interesting, the link is down @midnight PDT, hopefully just maintenance
I know this isn't the aspirational property that everyone loves, but i got good value buying points for a two night weekend cat 2 redemption. Cost $136.50 for the 6k points redeemed for a room that would have cost over $200 (total) cash rate.

My points were posted almost immediately ... at least that was how it seemed. Certainly within 24 hours I had the points

It should be 24 hours or less. I had the same issue as you. After 36 hours I called them and they said sometimes it gets stuck and they put in a case. 2 hours later it posted. I would call.

I found out last year my accident that if I make the purchase using Incognito mode on my Intenet Browser, the SPG points will not post immediately. It took 3 to 4 Business days before it will post. My guess is that it requires someone from SPG manually process it. With all the other delay with everything else, I am guessing this manual process also get delay as well.

I actually did call after 72 hours. I then called again 2 days later. It's been another two days, so maybe it's time to call yet again. I just did that but they couldn't give me any new information.

Thanks, for letting us know. Our apologies for any delay and I've escalated this to the appropriate team, but they may not get to it until early next week since that office is closed at the moment.
