2018 Status
All,
I'm afraid that I know the answer but....
With the combination of programs announced for August, do I need to be SPG Plat before that date? Or does it not matter as 2019 status will depend on total stays for 2018 and any SPG status for 2018 will not carry forward to 2019? I do a lot of single nighters, so SPG has been great for getting plat.
I suspect yes and this throws a massive monkey wrench into that planning.
But anyone have a link that outlines how this situation would work?

if I understand correctly,
you have entire 2018 to qualify PLT with SPG stays rules .... as long as you stays ONLY at SPG properties
on Aug 2018 Marriott will combine the nights count from both SPG and MR properties not the stays
Personally I will have 50 SPG nights done way before Aug
Will try stay at other Marriott brands after that 50 nights done
Most likely is RC

You have all of 2018 to qualify for next year's status based on the legacy program rules, using only that program's properties.
The typical example is that you can still earn SPG PLT, and then be NewProg PLT next year by having 25 stays at SPG properties by 12/31.
22 SPG stays and 3 MR stays won't meet the legacy requirement.
This is a 2018-only transition exception to the new rules of the new program, which are also in effect this year for combined activity. But the combined program has no stay-based criteria, so 25 stays is the typical exception case.

Put Simply, to qualify for Plat(50) for 2019, you must do one of the following:
1) Have 25 stays at the current SPG only portfolio of hotels by Dec 31, 2018.
-or-
2) Have 50 nights at the combined Marriott + SPG 29 chains portfolio by Dec 31, 2018.

Do we know if free nights still count towards requirements in the new program?

Post 4 is very clear and accurate. Two ways to get the "regular" Plat for Jan 1 2019 - Feb 29 2020, best I can tell. One question about the option to get 50 nights.
I have (2) SPG Cards (one business, one personal) so was seeded with 4 stays and 10 nights. Will those 10 nights count towards the 50? I believe they will, but have not been able to find anything that truly confirms it.

I really hope post 4 is true, since I was just told in chat that we had to requalify by August if using stays or else you will need to qualify under the new rules.

"You can also qualify via the existing criteria through December 31, 2018."
While it is under the heading of Lifetime status, it applies to everyone.

I am eligible for the Double Nights and Stays promotion (till end of May). Will the total number of nights including the doubled ones be transferred to the new program or only the „real“ number of nights?
And do I understand it correctly that I will get 10 SNAs when qualifying by the end of July with 50 nights (including the doubled ones)? Thanks for clarification!

I know we can qualify for "SPG Plat" and Ambassador under the old rules, that much is clear.
Can we still qualify for SPG75 under the old rules? Not seeing anything about that. I get that point earning for next year will be different, but would love a final year of Your24.

Good question. The extra point and Your 24 from SPG75, and the 10 SNAs from SPG 50 (rather than 5) seem to be open questions. I would expect the "if you earn it under the old program, you keep it" says they would, but these are certainly less clear than the 25 stay/Ambassador.
SNAs for MR elites qualifying this year is a similar question. They didn't exist in the legacy program - so do they get 5 for 50 and 10 for 75 this year? Or only starting next year?

I suspect that another complication will be how the triple stay and night credits for three rooms rule from SPG will be handled. My guess would be that the triple status credits would only apply to someone (re)qualifying under the old SPG rules, so in the combination with Marriott nights, only one night credit per night would count, but this is just a guess.

Double nights/stays promo? Was this a targeted promo or am I missing something? If not, is there a link somewhere?

Related question regarding status:
Do we think that the credit card nights from both Starwood and Marriott will both count in the combined night totals? If they do, I should be able to reach platinum pretty easily for next year.
