FAQs

SPG TAKE THREE PROMOTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Registration: Starwood Preferred Guest® Members must register online between May 15, 2017, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), August 30, 2017 (the "registration period") at spg.com/takethree. Registered members can earn bonus Starpoints® on eligible stays between May 27, 2017, through September 4, 2017 (the "earning period"), at participating hotels and resorts in the SPG® program.

Earning: Registered members will earn double Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on eligible stays of two or more nights within the earning period. Registered members who earn double Starpoints will earn an additional two (2) Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent (for a total of four [4] Starpoints per dollar). Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar eligible earnings are doubled. Registered members will earn triple Starpoints at participating hotels and resorts on eligible weekend stays of two or more nights within the earning period. Registered members who earn triple Starpoints will earn an additional four (4) Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent (for a total of six [6] Starpoints per dollar). Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled or tripled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar eligible earnings are doubled or tripled (collectively, the "promotion"). Offer is eligible with other Starpoints promotions; however, each offer will award bonus Starpoints independently of each other, and offers may not be combined.

Bonusing: The bonus Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within two [2] to four [4] weeks after the eligible stay posts.

Eligible stays and nights: An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel or resort, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the registered member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the earning period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. A description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions. See Section 2.1 for the complete definition of eligible rates. Note that certain prepaid room reservations — such as when the booking is made through a third party, including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com and delta.com — are not considered eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify for promotional earnings. Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. Stays will be processed for the promotion in the order they post to the registered member's account.

All promotions are subject to the Starwood Preferred Guest program terms and conditions, which are subject to change without notice and can be found at spg.com. Offer is applicable to individual members only and not to groups. Not responsible for omissions or typographical errors. SPG reserves the right to discontinue this promotion at any time, and the promotion is void where prohibited by law. When can I register for the promotion?

SPG Members can register May 15, 2017, through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) August 30, 2017 (the “registration period”).

What are the dates during which I can earn bonus Starpoints®?

Each registered SPG Member can earn bonus Starpoints for eligible paid stays from May 27, 2017, through September 4, 2017 (the “earning period”).

Can anyone register for this promotion?

Any SPG Member can register at spg.com/takethree. A nonmember can join the SPG program and register simultaneously, also at spg.com/takethree.

Will eligible stays or nights prior to registration count toward my earning?

Yes, as long as the SPG Member registers by August 30, 2017, any eligible paid stays or nights from May 27, 2017, through September 4, 2017, will count toward earning.

How do I earn double Starpoints?

A registered SPG Member will earn double Starpoints if the eligible stay is two or more nights at any participating SPG hotel or resort during the earning period. The bonus may be earned an unlimited number of times during the earning period.

[Top]

How many Starpoints do I earn with double Starpoints?

With double Starpoints, an SPG Member will earn four (4) total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be doubled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar eligible earnings are doubled. There is no limit to the number of total double bonus Starpoints a registered member can earn.

How do I earn triple Starpoints?

A registered member will earn triple Starpoints if the eligible stay is two or more nights and includes a Friday or Saturday night at participating hotels and resorts in the SPG program. For participating hotels in the Middle East, triple Starpoints will be awarded for eligible stays of two or more nights that include a Thursday or Friday night. Locations where triple Starpoints for eligible stays of two or more nights that include a Thursday or Friday night are: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. The bonus may be earned an unlimited number of times.

How many Starpoints do I earn with triple Starpoints?

With triple Starpoints, a registered member will earn six (6) total Starpoints per eligible US$1 spent. Elite-level extra Starpoints earnings and other bonuses will not be tripled. Only the base two-Starpoints-per-dollar earnings are tripled. There is no limit to the number of total triple bonus Starpoints a member can earn.

At which hotels and resorts am I eligible to earn double and triple Starpoints?

A registered member can earn double and triple Starpoints at any hotel or resort participating in the SPG Take Three promotion. Click hereto view the complete list of participating hotels and resorts.

What qualifies as an eligible paid stay for the double or triple Starpoints?

An eligible paid stay includes at least two consecutive nights at a participating SPG hotel or resort paying a qualifying rate that earns Starpoints as defined by the terms and conditions of the SPG program (spg.com/t&c).

[Top]

What qualifies as an eligible paid night?

An eligible paid night includes at least one night paying a qualifying rate at a hotel or resort participating in the SPG program during the earning period. Click here to view the complete list of hotels and resorts participating in the SPG Take Three promotion.

Can I book through a third party and earn bonus Starpoints?

Stays must be booked through any Starpoints-eligible channel, which includes a travel professional who books through those channels or the GDS. This is the only way to earn bonus Starpoints and get our best rates. Stays booked through prepaid, third-party channels — such as orbitz.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com, delta.com, etc. — are not eligible Rate Plans, so the registered member will not earn bonus Starpoints and will not qualify for the promotion. A description of a Starpoints-eligible channel can be found at spg.com under the program terms and conditions, section 2.1.

If part of my stay was reserved using a Free Night Award or SPG® Cash & Points, will my stay qualify?

No. Stays booked with Free Night Awards or Cash & Points do not count as qualifying stays for this promotion. Even if part of the stay is reserved using an Award and part is paid, the registered member will not receive bonus Starpoints for any part of the stay.

If I check in before the earning period begins or check out after the earning period ends, but some of my stay is in the earning period, does my stay earn the bonus?

Yes, as long as one night of the eligible stay is within the earning period, bonus Starpoints will be earned (even if part of the stay falls outside the earning period).

When will double and triple Starpoints post to my account?

Double and triple Starpoints earned during this promotion will post to the registered member's account within two [2] to four [4] weeks of each eligible paid stay posting. Please note: Not all bonuses will post at the same time.

[Top]

Will I earn stay and night credits toward elite status?

A registered member will earn stay and night credits as he or she normally does while earning Starpoints.

Can I take advantage of other bonus promotions during this promotion?

Yes. However, each promotion earns bonuses independently of each other.

My best guess would be yes, if you booked an eligible rate with AMEX FHR. These 4th night free offers are usually posted with the total revenue spread out over the four nights.

Then link your SPG status to Marriott (if you haven't already), and use the Marriott promo which is exactly the opposite, in that it rewards 1-night stays and penalizes multi-night stays.

Yes. I don't do 1 night hops.

Agree it's a nice promo, but the opt-outs are a worry, specifically HKG in my case, no Sheraton which I was considering for a stay.

I am unclear about the definition of an "eligible resort stay" for the 1500 points. Is this tied to the 2+ night promo requirement, or are single nights ok?

Single nights would not be eligible. A stay of two or more nights is required per the T&C of the 1,500 point bonus:
The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express Card Members ("SPG Card Members") who register for the SPG Take Three Promotion before the registration deadline will earn 1,500 Starpoints for eligible stays of two or more nights during the earning period at certain SPG Resorts that are participating in the SPG Take Three 3X and 2X promotion.

How about Mira? I'm considering to try out there after hearing some positive reviews about them. It's not too far from Sheraton.

I kinda like this MR/SPG "complementary" bonus promo. If you have a short one night stay, go for a MR property, if you stay 2 or + nights, go for SPG.

And the SPG is unlimited during that period so it's good for those having multiple weekend stays. Those are the ones I do usually, Fri/Sat nights all over the place.

Good that some Design Hotels (33) are participating as well, but not the ones I usually stay at. Maybe more will join at a later period?

Ovolo Southside, Hong Kong, a Member of Design Hotels™

Might have to spend more time in Macau!

That would be awesome, especially if MR/SPG stays/nights were combining this year for 2018 status...which of course they aren't.

Thus, those of us that are trying to max out status w/SPG are shut out of the MR promo in essence.

Just to clarify my stupid question, but the additional 1500 points is added per stay simply if you are a cardholder? So my current booking coming up which was purchased with my Citi Prestige would still net me the 1500 as I also hold a SPG Personal CC?

The T&C of the promo have the following two statements:
- Payment with an SPG Credit Card is not required.
- An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an eligible rate in the same hotel or resort, regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur, and posting to the registered member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. An eligible night is defined as at least one night paying an eligible rate in the earning period. An eligible rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program.

So, my interpretation is if you are paying an eligible rate then you would earn the 1,500 bonus Starpoints regardless of your method of payment. If your prepaid rate, paid with your Citi Prestige, was booked through a Starwood channel, then it would qualify. However, if your prepaid rate was paid to Citi or booked/paid through a Citi reward program then that rate would not be an eligible rate as it would be treated as a third-party prepaid rate.

Yeah the concierge books directly with Starwood. Many thanks!

The Ovolo is a nice hotel. I can fully recommend it. It is out of the way but with the MTR station near by its easy to connect.

The nightly happy hour is nice too
