Does the SPG 100 Ambassador Worth $1200?
I'm looking for advice:
I've stayed over 90 nights this year on Starwood properties and earned a Platinum 75 status. I have no upcoming trips until January. To qualify as te next (and highest) tier -- Platinum 100 -- I'll have to burn personal money on empty hotel rooms.
Does the "private ambassador", the only apparent difference between Platinum 75 (my current status) and 100, worth the cost of these nights, a minimum of $1200?
Thanks!

No, unless you find yourself having to call into the Platinum line really often.

Not worth it. There are some great aspects of the program, but its inconsistent and SPG does not have full buy-in from several hotels.

I have never had an ambassador, but a colleague has had one. He is Lifetime Plat, etc. and never made big requests. He did a two-week vacation, bunch of cities, stayed at a bunch of starwoods, etc. not long after he got married, and basically said to his ambassadaor that if he has any sort of one-time ability to request favors, he would like to use them all of this trip.
He basically got nada one any of his stays.
Based on that, and lesser things he has said about his ambassdaor, there is no way I would go one iota out of my way to hit SPG 100.

Not worth it unless you choose hotels much cheaper than 120 dollars a night.

I'm in a similar boat with Plat75, and I will likely need 10 additional nights. There are several Cat. 2 properties nearby so I could book 10 award nights and it would cost me roughly $750 worth of points. I looked at my spending this year and the extra point per dollar would get me roughly half of that value back, but I can't decide if the your24 would be worth the rest.
In your case I wouldn't go for it for $1200 based on everything i've read and my brother's experience with his ambassador so far.
