I always take the points. I have had many front desk clerks tell me that "Everyone takes the points".
I have always had them post, I only had to ask for the card once.

They sometimes post with the base points and 50% SPG bonus points. Other times they take up to 5 days. Other times they don't post at all. The agent at the desk always seems to 'add' it to my folio, so I don't understand why the system doesn't transmit that info along with the base and SPG points.

But what if you're staying on points...do you still get the 500 points?

I stayed on points and still got the points. In Asia in addition to the points you usually get a fruit basket or bottle of wine.

Points!!
Since most of my stays are in the $125-$150/nt range, the 500 SPG points are almost 3x what I would earn from my folio alone. Without the 500 amenity points, us 4-Pts and Sheraton type of folks would need a long, long time to earn free nights!

BTW, can a property offer only a gift and no points?

I have taken points all but one time.
