Targeted promos for non-US members?

A question for Mr Lurker, I guess... (having searched the forum on "targeted promos Asia" and finding nothing)

Have there ever been any targeted promos for non-US/N American SPG members? It is quite dispiriting as a member resident in Asia to see all this stuff going on and be unable ever to benefit. It seems to me that there is quite an incentive to find some sort of US mailing address, but that would be a lot of unnecessary hassle.

Nevertheless, having been Platinum for the last three or four years I am really going to miss the benefits when I drop down next year.

Same here in Europe... although I am "just" a SPG Gold member (but I earned it the hard way, no comps... ).

Not only is it disheartening to those of you oversea's, it is also aggravating to see promo after promo targeted to large cities. It appears that *wood believes that business is only done in NY, SF and other large metropolitan cities. I understand that these are high revenue generating properties but not everyone travels to these areas.

To target specific geography, to a preferred guest program, that benefits a percentage of properties and travelers, while neglecting to openly pursue the business of us who travel the highways and by ways of America.

Many recent promo's indirectly state that you have to go here, at this time, and make your reservation within these dates, to benefit in *Woods preferred guest program.

Sorry, I can't let a promo schedule dictate where and when I go to see clients. For those whom it benefits, I think it is great, I just don't happen to be one of them. Sour grapes, maybe, but fact none the less.

Looking elsewhere........
John

I do travel to these areas and cities and that's what's making me sad... a few times, this has already caused me to pick a Hyatt or Hilton property rather than staying at a Starwood property as I was not targetted / could not enroll in any applicable promotion.

If you were selected to be part of a targeted promotion, you will be notified by mail, email, or on your e-statement.

Sorry, but I have nothing to do with who gets selected or from where the selectees are chosen. Something to be eternally thankful for, I assure you.

Best regards,

Thanks, William.

But I agree on most of the previous posts that it seems to be true that as a european member there are no targeted (if any) promos for me. And I don't understand that; other hotel brands (especially Hilton) do many fancy promos at the moment here in europe.

That is especially sad as it is much harder to earn status here in europe. How many properties does starwood have in france or in whole scandinavia....

If some starwood marketing folks are reading this: do something for your overseas members!

Interesting... (bit of a newbie alert here)I'm a new UK member with a low balance traveling mostly on leisure. I'm not really concerned with earning massive status, as I doubt it will happen given my travel habits, but - would it make sense for me to be a US member instead?

I can do this because I have a US mailing address. For example - my BA membership is based in the US because the UK benefits are abysmal (1/4 miles in economy and such). So, after all my ramblings, the question is - am I selling myself short by being a UK member of the program?

Thanks!

I would say: go for the US address.
However, the more business you do with them, the more promos you are targeted in...
