What happens to existing award reservations when a property changes categories?

I am going to begin booking some award nights for travel next summer. My question is this: What happens if I book, say a category 5 hotel that is changed to a category 6 before I get there? Do I pay the category 4 rate of points or category 5 rate of points? And what if it is downgraded? Finally, when do you (William) anticipate new property categorizations to be announced?

Thanks.

Starwood has always been very good about this. You get it at the # of points when you booked it.

Past practice is also that they will honor the lower point threshold for 6 months or so after an increase is announced.

If a hotel is downgraded, you could always cancel the award and have it reissued.
