How long to transfer points within household?

I love that SPG points can be transferred between household members. However, they 7-10 business days to transfer message they gave my wife was a bit annoying.

What have others that have transferred points in this manner experienced?

I believe this has been discussed previously and the delays are by design. I think it allows them some time for audit and to ensure there is no abuse of the process (i.e. people doing unauthorized transfers).

I did a transfer recently, it was quoted 7-10 business days but it was credited in 2 business days.

Agreed - never had one last more than 4 business days. Often they take two between my wife's account and mine.

I've had it take a full week. I think they process in batches and it's probably just luck if the draw when you submit your request.

As a more recent data point, in case it’s useful for someone.

I initiated a transfer this past week. Message says expect up to 5 days. It was done within 3 days.

Somewhat unrelated but my understanding is that household transfers are limited to a certain number a year in Marriott while in SPG they are unlimited?

So I should make sure to aggregate our household SPG points this month in advance of the August system merger?

My guess is that you would have to take into consideration how many points you wish to transfer over a year's time.

Will there be a post-August policy for points transfers between members?

Points transfer will continue to exist as it does today. Members can share points with any Rewards member they choose. Members can transfer 1,000-50,000 points per year.

Thanks, that was what I was thinking the new rules would be. Since the wife is sitting on ~100k Starpoints (so ~300k Marriott points in the new program) I'll need to make sure we get those moved into my account this month so we don't need to take 6 years to move/spend them!

I have swept all my husband's points into my account. July will be the last month he uses his SPG Biz AMEX card. We've already retired it so when the bill closes it will be the final sweep that I need to do. I'm the one with status. I'm the one who books award nights for us. Thus, it makes sense for me to be the holder of the points.

Same boat here! I'm also the one trolling (and occasionally contributing) to FT to learn how best to use our meagre collection of points and miles

So from above I should expect 2-4 days?

What happens if I spend the points before the transfer? Do they void the transfer or the reservation?

I plan to start booking as soon as the new program loads, from whichever account has the points.
