Chatwal or St. Regis NYC
My wife's birthday is coming up. Last year we did Waldorf (free night), this year I was going to use some of my SPG points for a free night. Which is nicer, the chatwal or st. regis? Or is there a better lux. SPG hotel in Manhattan? Preferably near or not far from the theater district.

St. Regis to answer both of your questions (more luxurious and theatre district).

I disagree about proximity to the theater district, I think the Chatwal is right in the heart of it (of course it depends on exactly which theater).

Chatwal is basically in the theatre district on 44th. St Regis is a bit north at 55th.

What Re you doing in addition to the theater? I think of these as very different locations.

St. Regis is nicer. And 10 min walk from theaters.

St. Regis is nice in that it has that old world charm... it's famous, they invented the Bloody Mary there... the rooms are delightful, comfortable, exude luxury of course.
Chatwal is also really nice too. Solid furnishings. Art Deco and stylish design. A modern take. The bathroom is stunning and nicer than the St. Regis. It's just what you expect from a really classy modern hotel.
I shouldn't think your partner would be disappointed with either choice.

I've had disappointing experiences with the St. Regis, so I now go with the Chatwal.

If you hate red, then how do you now like the Chatwal? I only walked through the lobby to get to the elevator to the Spa, but it was the reddest place I've ever been in.

Yeah, potato, potahto...or should I say tomato, tomahto?
Anyway, I painted my kitchen aquamarine a few years ago, so I'd never stay at the St. Regis for that reason (oh, and the price, )

If I may bump this thread....
Which of the two hotels is better from a Platinum upgrade point of view, using points?
I did the St. Regis years ago on points and was very impressed, but I'd like to know the latest. This would be next month so not so many businesspeople in town.
