Four Points by Sheraton Riyadh Khaldia, Saudi Arabia [Master Thread]

after starwood tried to set up an aloft in RUH, apparently now a more realistic approach with a FourPoints Hotel:

Basic summary for me is: good hotel, poor location.

Staff in particular are very competent for Riyadh, rooms are a good size, internet is free and reliable, tv package is good, food is acceptable. Downside is that the hotel is in an older area of town, 20 mins+ from Olaya in a taxi. Gym is also not completed and temporary gym is small and open at inconvenient times.

Aloft is in a much more central location but based on how the build is progressing October seems an ambitious opening target.

I spent four months at the Four Points earlier this year and the previous poster summarized it quite well. The hotel is ok, a bit dated, but works well. The staff are great.

The rooms are very much to my taste and even their smallest rooms are quite spacious. The food in the lounge is ok. The gym is small, but has the basics. The major downside really is the location as it is far away from anything in Riyadh.

The Aloft is now maked as opening in January 2016, so it really is taking its time...

Four Points Riyadh Khaldia, Saudi Arabia [Master Thread]

I did not find any tread on this hotel (except an archived one in the discontinued SPG forum).

I am here now, for 5 nights....Riyadh hotels were expensive for my dates...Marriott and Sheraton were 300 USD plus taxes, and they seem very basic. So I booked 5 nights on points here - 28500 points in total. The daily rate was around 150 USD plus taxes, so a great value for points.

Was upgraded to a teo bedroom suite on the day of arrival, according to the app. Arrived in the middle of the night and was escorted to my room. The suite, on 11th floor, is very large...living room with a kitchen area, full fridge etc, but no utensils. One smaller bedroom with two single beds. And one larger bedroom with a king bed. Two bathrooms, one with walk-in shower and one with bathtub. The hotel feels slightly outdated...I am not sure how to put it. It is clean and well kept, but starting to show wear and tear. The three televisions in the suite are all long overdue. And the shower pressure is weak, if you like warm water. Apart from that I enjoy my stay. Comfy beds, lots of space, bright, nice views towards the water tower, Kingdom Center, etc.

Nice and helpful staff at reception, restaurant, cafe and housekeeping. Basic food at the cafe and at the restaurant. Not awful and not excellent. Definitely edible. Reliable wifi.

I haven't tried the gym, pool, nor the breakfast. Riyadh is a night city and getting to bed at 3 and 4 and 5 AM exclude the breakfast on my behalf. I did, however, choose the breakfast as my amenity just in case.

The main drawback for some potential visitors would be the location. It is located in the old part of Riyadh, lots of damaged buildings and the area is feels very rundown. Plenty of "non-westernised" people around - but that's a great thing IMO. Hotel is a few blocks from Deera (Chop-Chop) Square and the Saudi National Museum. There are lots of "local" stores around, but they do not cater much to non-locals, I assume. Also many smaller supermarkets and fast food joints in the immediate area. I had some great kebab walking down the road - a tiny restaurant - right across the street from KFC. Riyadh is not a walking city, you can't really walk anywhere anyway, so the location is definitely not a problem for me. Maybe I spend an extra 10 minutes getting somewhere, but that's not an issue.

Conclusion - nice hotel, great elite benefits and a great value on points. Would definitely stay here again.
