They cannot take away the Starpoints you would normally earn on an eligible stay just because you choose breakfast as the welcome amenity; however, they can ask you to choose between the welcome points and breakfast.

William,

Thank you for the reply. That is how I understood it from other hotels.

Four Points Niagara Falls -- April 2018

Provided $20 credit against full buffet, which is $13.95/person (so buffet is $7.90 for 2). I am fine with that, IF the full buffet is your intended choice.

What I don't think is correct or appropriate is that the other choice is continental served to your table that is only pastries and fruit (plus coffee/juice). I was provided with the same Platinum breakfast amenity card upon check-in that I have been provided in almost every hotel, which specifically lists the items -- those items specifically include yogurt and cereal. I nicely and patiently asked two separate people in the restaurant, and even pointed to the fine print on the card -- both said the same thing "Our Platinum breakfast here is pastries/fruit on a plate from the kitchen and your drinks only". What I wanted for breakfast was fruit/yogurt/cereal and coffee -- those all fit in the terms of the amenity that is supposed to be provided, but was not an option, so we paid for the full buffet for two since the pastries on the buffet looked to be straight from a package...

Here's the really annoying part -- the buffet is set up with the hot items on one side and the cold items on the other side (which exactly mirror the items that are supposed to be included). So they could have simply said all cold items are included, but if you want hot items from the other side of the buffet, there is an additional charge of $3.95/person. I have been given this choice in a few hotels (though admittedly most simply provide the full buffet, which they don't have to), and found that to be a great choice option since I usually have hot breakfast at most once/week.

“Continental” is open to interpretation, and some properties play around with definitions. At Le Parker Meridien in NYC (before it left SPG), Plat breakfast consisted of an espresso and a croissant.

Just looked at the wiki and noticed that three Japanese properties need to be updated (late March 2018 stays):

- Sheraton Hiroshima now allows breakfast in club or full restaurant buffet without upcharge.
- Sheraton Miyazaki still allows free breakfast in Pine Terrace, but the now lounge also serves breakfast. PT is a zoo on weekends, so the lounge may be the better option.
- Sheraton Yokohama: Breakfast in lounge only, decent spread with egg station.

In all cases (obviously) 500 points also given.

Sheraton Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
This seems to be going back and forth but last week we were offered "anything at the buffet".

Sheraton Herndon Dulles Airport: restaurant is closed. Hotel is being rebranded to a Courtyard. Breakfast is by room service only.

Sheraton Mendoza offers a very extensive breakfast in the lounge with gorgeous views of the sunrise (15th floor).

Sherator Libertador in Ana gave me the option to have breakfast in either the lounge or restaurant. I picked the restaurant with more and better options.

Should add to Le Meridien Vienna that they will deliver the included Morning Glory continental breakfast — Large basket of breads and pastries, coffee or tea and juice (18 euro on menu) as room service for a 5 euro fee. A la Carte additions are very reasonably priced.

The Park Central, San Francisco:

Full buffet breakfast (reg Price 25$).
High quality cold and warm items. One of the better US Plat breakfast offerings, IMHO.

Sheraton New York Times Square: Breakfast in the lounge in addition to the 500 points. Served until 10am. Breakfast spread was mediocre but sufficient.
