Any idea how far in advance award bookings are allowed? I just tried a couple of hotels both online and on the phone for the summer of 2013, but there was no "award inventory", but there was normal rooms available. I thought they were 1 in the same. I may try and go ahead and book some 2013 vacations also.

I have a reservation for a 12 night stay booked in a cat 4 that's going up to cat 5. I may want to drop the last night of that stay, but won't know for sure until after Mar 1. If I drop that night after Mar 1, can I just get the 10K back? Or would that reprice the whole thing, effectively increasing the total cost?

(The hotel is currently sold out for the whole period, so if I drop the night now, I might be unable to add it back later.)

Swag,

I know this does not help you now, but it could possibly help you in the future. I always book my stays in one or two-night increments (unless doing the 5th night free). So for a 3-night stay, I'll book 3 one-night awards in case I need to ever change anything it only affects a single night as opposed to the entire booking.

Wow, can't believe the old Grand is a Cat 7. I loved the hotel, though, and would rate it better than the Schloss Fuschl mentioned.

Interesting, I didn't know there was another AI. Panama is quite easy to get to.

But with the changes in Thainland properties and the fact that I have a ton of airline miles, I am thinking I went to head out that way now.

I have not been in Honolulu in many years, but I can't believe the PK still is even operating. I hope, since I last saw it (never stayed there, just visited friends staying in that property in the 1980s), that it was significantly upgrade when it went with SPG!

Interesting, as the Le Meriden Cancun *wood site shows they are leaving on 3/1. William, could you let us know what's going on with this property?

Unless something remarkable happens, I think they are gone as of March 1, 2012:

Please note:
Leaving Starwood on March 1, 2012

Why they would end up on the list of changes for categories, I really can't say, but it wouldn't surprise me to find a few others there as well.

Not my call to make, frankly. More than happy to pass along the anomalies, but don't ask me to tell you why a decision was made to include them.

On what basis do you make this statement?!? This is the danger of forums like FT -- folks pass off incorrect information as gospel and it can affect many others who read that bad information here.

My opinion is Sheraton Singapore should go down to Cat 2. It looks like LM Jakarta.

Swag, You might want to book an 11 night stay and then a 1 night stay before Mar 1. You can always cancel the 1 night rez. that is the last night of your trip.

What does the Cat level represent in your opinion?

In my opinion, it should be based on quality, but I know it is based on ADR.
