Is this worth it? (One night Mattress Run)
Your input is most welcome!
-Currently a basic SPG member
-I am 1 stay short of Gold
-Thanks to the Platinum challenge I am 6 nights short of Platinum
-In late June I have a 7 night stay at the Las Vegas Westin that will put at Platinum level, but at check in I will have no status.
Is it worth it to do a 1 night Mattress run, cost of $98, to have Gold status at time of check-in for a 7 night stay?
I'm inclined to think it is worth it, just wondering what all of you think...
Many thanks.

Can't you find a lower rate for your mattress run? At this rate it is hard to earn it back with the extra starpoints you would get being gold.

Also, I wouldn't count on much in the way of a Plat upgrade at the Westin Las Vegas if that's a goal in being Plat before then...

Don't think you will be getting a suite at the Westin in vegas sorry. Thus you will miss out on the 500 amenity, there is no lounge either. Thus you aren't giving up much.

If you can use the free resort nights under Getaway Free and the mattress run's stay credit would push you to an extra night, it may be worth it.

Agreeing with others in this thread: the platinum recognition/benefits at the Westin in Vegas is amongst the worst in the SPG system.
You won't be missing out by having no status when you check in there, and it certainly isn't worth $98.

It's a shame you need to experience the Westin Las Vegas in order to reach Plat. I would definately not to a run to get gold for the WLV. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy *wood's many other fine properties once you have your Plat status.

Have you tried contacting customer service to ask for Gold status? The first time I booked two nights at the Westin Pasadena for our post-marriage stay, they upgraded me to Gold. Maybe it was due to the nuptials, but perhaps Gold is easier to attain? Obviously, YMMV but it doesn't hurt to call and request nicely. Worst they can say is no.

They give 2 plat awards - so an extra 1,000 point potential I don't think qualifies as the worst recognition/benefits. However, they just don't have many upgrade opportunities so gold status is really worthless there. Just ask for a room on 12 or higher and you'll be fine - they are all basically the 'upgraded room' and the top floor is junior suites - but there only like 10 of them and I have only received one once after 10+ stays there as a Plat.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll forego the run and just wait for better things later.

That's so true. Besides not giving me a suite upgrade they wanted to charge me for "resort fees"
What a joke. I kindly denied to pay such a fee. The hotel was not amused
Neither was I!

If you could get a price for 60 then try it out. 98 seems to be high for a mat run.
