Yeah, hitting the "try again" button really sucks. The folks who design these programs should flash a "running count" instead. Sure, you do still have a remote chance that some initial orders will cancel and go back into inventory (and that obviously happened here), but your odds suck. So the time/chance-of-success ratio is poor.

Unless the prize is fantastic (like a round-the-world trip for $300), it's probably better to just try when the offer opens and, if you don't have initial success, walk away. I know that's hard to do, but it's the "happiness-maximizing" strategy.

I think he did a running total of FT, not his own purchase. I missed out as my work blocked the site

I didnt do nearly as well as CDG, but I'm content nonetheless:

1x 10k
5x 7k
2x 4k
=53k @ $765

What worked for me is having my *wood number in my copy/paste feature so all I had to do was hit CNTRL V twice when the first screen appeared.

The best deal I could land on this had me using non-Amex cards. The 10k and 7k deals went really fast -- and I knew they would -- so I started the purchases from the 4k sales because I was about 3 minutes late to the auction than I wanted to be.

I don't see how that helped you. I had the same thing, but if you can't get past the first checkout button click, having your spg# on your clipboard doesn't ever matter. It also doesn't help you with the odd cc form rules some of us unpleasantly discovered.

I got 5 * 7k very soon after 10:00am.

Miles4CDG, what's wrong with your calculator?
20*10k + 40*7k + 28*4k = 592k
( My own spreadsheet was way off, too, since my SUM ranges were set up for a smaller list than actually ended up in my spreadsheet. I just updated my list.)

Based on all the posts, here's what I think is accurate up to this point...

Running Totals for all FTers who have reported their purchases in this thread:
10,000 pckg: 35
7,000 pckg: 76
4,000 pckg: 44

Total = 1,112k

(GUWonder did not report quantity, so GUWonder's purchase is not included in the totals.)

Thanks, SPG!
Thanks, Starwood Lurker!

If redeemed toward Cat4 C&P awards, the total cost will be about $117 per night. (cost of points + $60 cash)

If redeemed toward Cat5 C&P awards, the total cost will be about $159 per night. (cost of points + $90 cash)

( + a few dollars in taxes for the cash portions.)

I can't remember how many 7k packages were offered. There were, I think 421 10k and around 261 4k total up for grabs. So, so far, FTers have reported getting about 15% of the number of packages.

I was waiting/refreshing and tried right at 10 EST, didn't get anything. I should have aimed for the 7,000 first. tried 5x 10,000 a couple times, then 4x 10,000; then the same down the line with the 7k and 4k.

Oh well, wish they would have made more points available
