* Codeshare Continental?
Hi there,
I know that CO will join *A in October (?) but I could not find out when codeshare booking will be available, neither CO nor LH SEN hotline could tell me. Since I have to book flights to South America I need to know this asap.
Thank you

How would a codeshare be relevant? *A mileage rules are usually based on the *A metal you are flying on not the flight number. Non *A metal = no miles. There is some speculation about CO's partner Copa joining *A but nothing has been confirmed. However they are leaving Sky Team as well.

Welcome to Flyer Talk quickjob
If your travel date is before Continental (CO) joins Star Alliance (*A) then you are unlikely to be able to earn or burn miles with any *A frequent flyer programs (FFPs) on CO flights.
If your travel date is after CO joins *A, then a paid ticket booked now but for travel after will earn redeemable and status miles if it is an eligible fare. Of course some fares (such as around the world) will not allow CO flights to be included until after they join *A.
If your travel date is after CO joins *A then an award ticket on CO flights won't be able to be booked using *A FFP miles until after they have joined.

Hi Kiwiflyer - thanks for clarification. Here's what I have in mind: Booking of Y tickets FRA-IAH-UIO with LH & CO and then upgrade with miles to C. I'm planning the trips now so I tried to fin out when it will be able to book. I hope the reservation system allows prior to CO joining end of October.

Nothing will prevent you from booking right now. Your upgrade, on the other hand, will have to wait and it will all depend on whether CO decides to participate in the *A upgrade program (unless you plan on using CO miles to upgrade).
