Availability question

Ok, If I understand it correctly, partner airlines have usually one "mileage" seat in First Class on SQ (and others I suppose).

If that one F seat is taken, does that mean that I have to hope that the "taker" of that seat cancels, changes, etc so I can get it, or does SQ (and others) open up other space as the flight day/time gets closer?

More seats may be released closer to departure depending on loads.

With SQ note that 77W and A380 F seats are (still) not available for redemption.
