am connecting (on the same PNR) from BD to LX at Zurich. I hope I can check my luggage all the way through and that BD will be able to issue my LX boarding card. Are my hopes likely to be fulfilled? Have checked with Swiss but they aren't sure. Before trying the horrors of the BD call centre I thought I would check if anyone knew on this board.

Yes for through checking bags on single ticket with same day connection at ZRH, maybe on issuing boarding pass. If not then the transfer centre is well signposted (or get the onward boarding pass issued in the lounge).

Not exactly the same situation, but LH had no trouble issuing my LX boarding pass at MUC for a ZRH connection this past October. So, unless there's an issue unique to either BD or whatever your point of departure is, it ought to work.
(Can't speak to the baggage issue directly since I had no checked bags, but interline baggage transfer has been around for a lot longer than *A, is near-universal, and tends to work as it should. When ZRH baggage handlers look at your bag they just care about the flight it's continuing on, not which alliance the airline operating that flight belongs to.)

Do the *A carriers generally interline baggage ? I have a trip on TK (HKG-LHR) coming up and a connection at LHR to LH. The flights are not on one ticket, so will I have to collect my luggage and check-in again ? Thanks for your help.

Generally yes. However on separate tickets if the connection is short airlines may refuse to check the bags through, and some airports do not allow long/overnight baggage storage.
Note also various customs rules means sometimes you need to claim bags at the intermediate point even if bags are tagged through.
