UA between MEL-SYD, but only when you use UA on the Trans-Pacific leg to/from SYD as well.

I wish they don't.

NZ ruined (raped and robbed would also be appropriate) a great Aussie domestic carrier - remember Ansett, anyone?

You can only book UA codeshares as connections to/from UA operated flights.

I do. So many jobs lost. My 400K+ Global Rewards points, existing redemption bookings and *G status vanished overnight. I was living in Singapore at the time and remember only too well how cold SQ turned in an instant.

I love NZ as a long haul carrier, but I'd rather DJ joined *A than see NZ fly domestically in Aus (again).

Actually, I'd be really happy if DJ joined *any* alliance. At the moment DJ status stops at the border.

Actually not really true as DJ status is also good on V Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue.

Not quite what happened.

That said, it is very sad to think they are now gone.

Yeah. I did not want to start this discussion, because it tends to get really nasty. But if anyone still believes, it was only NZs or SIAs fault, perhaps they should take some time and read this pretty much complete account of what has happened:
