THE STAR Mini RTW

Has anyone heard of the mini Around the World, which is supposed to be offered from Australia. It is supposedly only valid with UA, LH and TG and sells for about AUD$8,500 ..Does anyone know about this?

I have a colleage who says he bought this with UA in Australia but when I call nobody has ever heard of it

Try bestflights.com.au - they offer a range of "individual" RTW type fares, which are mostly a carrier fare travelled in combination with a handful of other carriers.

Sounds like the LH fares to europe. They allow routing via asia, north america or one in each direction. Thus can construct a RTW (albeit less segments and much more restrictive than *A RTWs).

Is this for C or Y? Seems pretty expensive to me if it's a Y fare.

No, this is the C fare. There is also a good mixed C and F fare.

My first post, I would like to let people know that I have booked a RTW Business Class flight in September for AUD $6,960.00 Incl Taxes which is approx $4,500.00 USD - I booked and paid on 7th January 2009 & was ticketed the following day with all seats prebooked thanks to Seat Guru advice.

Details are - Syd - Lax - Fra - Budapest- Fra - Lax - Syd.

Syd- Lax & Lax - Syd is United 747 new configuration, whilst Lax- Fra- Bud-Fra- Lax will be Lufthansa.

The fare is/was available at travel.com.au.

Looking at United website the Syd- Lax - Syd leg costs $8,900.00 USD for the same trip that I am taking, this of course does not include the fare from Lax - Europe.

Fare Class is Z, however I am not complaining as the miles earned is x 2 on both airlines total points 56,000 .

Regards.

You may be refering to the LH star alliance special as Kwiflyer said, this has incurred a price increase but is still for sale and valid till 31st March. regards bkkrop

edited to welcome robertr to the board, great minds think alike, we must have posted at the same time. It's a brilliant fare and American friends say the new cabin is awesome and the M&M points are a wise move too.

If purchasing through BestFlights, make sure you get an itemised breakdown of all the taxes, surcharges and fees - just in case they add a couple of hundred extra for themselves (I speak from experience). Now getting this information from them is very very hard

Yes I suspected that I was robbed around $200.00 as the taxes came to $1,290.00 AUD, this was with travel.com.au ,I have read bad reviews about best flights staff & their attitude towards customers so I did not try them.

Still this is an amazing fare.

No, everyone buying LH tickets is always robbed in this way! AUD 1.200 is quite LOW for LH fuel fines on this ticket, which by the way it is easiest to purchase directly by calling LH.

Welcome to FlyerTalk. This looks like a good deal etc., etc. However ... it should be pointed out that this is not an RTW : it is simply SYD-BUD r/t, 'the long way'. It is not an RTW because it does not include a segment Area 2 <-> Area 3 (Europe/Africa <-> Asia/SWP). Just to be clear...

cheers,

Henry

Thanks Henry,

Whilst it is restrictive you can still be routed through Asia refer to link, note that the valid dates have not been updated by website travel is valid through 2009.

You could make it a true RTW but you get less miles that way!

That still doesn't change it is a simple OZ to Europe return fare. There are quite a few of these types around (and ex-NZ too).

I'm going to Paris on SYD-SFO-FRA-xCDG-FRA-BKK-SYD on this fare in Feb.
Cost though the corp TA includes $1250 in taxes.

Going SYD-SFO-FRA-xCDG-FRA-SFO-SYD was $1450 in taxes.

The base C fare of approx $5300 is the same for either, but taxes are $200 more for the Sydney-Paris return fare, versus the RTW going Sydney-Paris-Bangkok.
All prices $aud.
