Losing miles EOM / Need advice.
Good Day Knowledgable Air Warriors,
At the end of the month I'm slated to lose 27k miles on my LH miles n more program I'm at 62k at the moment. I have not flown in about 2 years.
My Girlfriend has about the same amount on United's program.
Can we use these in the Star alliance network to take a getaway?
If this is possible for both of us to use, any recommendations?
We would fly out of TUS and we can go anywhere preferable as far away from Tucson as possible.
If its possible to use miles can I book now for a trip past the end of the month?
Thanks for any advice

As long as your award is ticketed before the miles expire the travel can be up to a year later. Note that if you cancel the award after the expiry date then you'll lose the miles.

You can keep your miles from expiring by making a purchase through one of the vendor partners of the airline. I'm not sure about LH, but the OP's girlfriend can keep her miles from expiring for another 18 months by simply buying a 99 cent Itunes song through the United Mileage Plus Mall.
Also, if you book the ticket while the miles are still in your account, you can book the award ticket date for anytime up to 330 days after the miles would have expired. (in theory)
