Program Questions

I'm not familiar with * alliance. Somebody i know is selling a "star alliance biz class ticket" for $1100. What does that actually mean, how does Star Alliance work, is it just a program that essentially lets you use miles between airlines based on their standard availability or are there certain star program perks?

I have read the program descriptions and posts etc but am still confused. Do different airlines have different mileage redemption's or is a * Alliance ticket X miles? Is there a system wide mileage chart? Is availability the same as any mileage ticket or is a separate fare class?

thanks

Yet all programs prohibit selling awards, which it appears the OP's "friend" is doing.

You are right. I focussed on the wrong bit. Time for a coffee methinks.

Yes, miles can be used between programs and yes, there are certain standard perks.
But we are all confused about what your friend is doing. What is he actually selling? Is he selling a ticket and he uses his miles to "pay" for it? Then he is violating his programs T&C.
